“Why did we let Shaun pick?” Andy muttered and yawned and looked at me for a reply.
“Maybe because it was Shaun’s turn?” I told him, Shaun shushed us so he could watch the movie in peace.
“Can we leave Shaun out of the movie nights then?” Andy asked ignoring Shaun.
I didn’t reply and went back to watching the movie, right now they were on a bus that was being hijacked. I had seen the movie a thousand times, I looked over at Shaun.
He was staring at the screen completely focused on it and when the movie was over he’d most likely put on Death Note 2.
I wondered how Ruby was going, if Jumpnow hadn’t made a wrong turn then she’d probably still be on that pavement getting hypothermia. She never told us why she was there in the first place. She was different to most of the girls I had met, her hair was blue and she treated us like normal people.
Because she didn’t know.
All night I had been contemplating whether or not to tell her but in the end it seemed like the right choice to not. I haven’t met a girl like her in so long. It would be better for us all if she didn’t know, it’s not like she needed to know. She’d understand wouldn’t she?
“I’m going to check up on Ruby.” I whispered and stood up before making my way to the room she was in, the light was still on.
I slowly opened the door and saw her sprawled on the bed with a sketchpad in her right hand and snoring. I walked over and picked up her sketchpad and took a peek at what she had been drawing. It was a manga girl in a hoodie lying on a pavement in the rain. I smiled and inspected her picture closer. The girl seemed sad with a distant and upset look on her face and she was staring up towards the sky. It was such an amazing drawing and I suddenly wondered if Ruby was still in high School.
Shit.
If she was still a teenager then wouldn’t she have parents wondering where she was? What if was running away from home? All these thoughts invaded my mind but I shoved them out and tried to convince myself that she wasn’t a high schooler. She didn’t seem at all like one.
I put down the drawing and grabbed a blanket to put over Ruby, it was my spider-man one. I looked over at the clock, it was 11:57. I smiled and went back to the lounge room where Shaun was yelling at the television and the dead guy on the screen.
And for some reason I joined along with him but nothing could take my mind off Ruby Red.
