Chapter 3
I woke up in an ambulance, confused and panicked. I tried to sit up, but immediately felt too dizzy and laid back down. "What happened?" I asked in a small voice, to anyone who was listening.
"They said you were having a seizure.." Said Axcel's voice. I opened my eyes again and Axcel's face swam before me before my eyes focused. My eyebrows furrowed in confusion. What..? Then I remembered the Hobbit movie, and feeling sick and dizzy. I hadn't remembered any of that when I'd first woken up..and that scared me.
"You scared the shit out of me del.." Said Axcel, shaking his head. "You kind of fell over and started convulsing, like someone's put you under the crutiatus curse or something.."
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. "Can we keep the Harry Potter references to a minimum for the moment?" I asked tiredly. "This is a lot to take in. I don't even remember half of it."
"Yeah..yeah, of course," he mumbled, gripping onto my hand. I guess he really had been worried.
"I called your parents, they're meeting us at the hospital," he said cautiously.
I shot him a look. "What?"
"Sorry," he mumbled, "They need to know about these things.."
"Ax! They're working, you didn't need to call them..now they're just going to make a big deal out of everything!"
He sighed, "And you don't think this is a big deal?"
I glared at him. "No. People get seizures all the time. It's not a big deal," I said grumpily. I put my hands to my temples. Trying to soothe the headache.
"I'm sorry," he said, not meeting my eyes anymore. "I was just worried. Still am."
I rolled my eyes slightly. "Look. I'll be fine, Ax. Like I said, it's not a big deal."
"Besides. I know you'll forgive me. Your parents would banish me if I didn't call them when their daughter was being taken away from the theater in an ambulance."
"Yeah, but who do you care about more?" I asked, smiling slightly.
"You," he said, in all seriousness. "That's also why I called."
We made it to the hospital and the medics helped me out of the ambulance. I'd never been in an ambulance before. It sure made the trip to the hospital easy without having to wait for traffic lights and all.
The medics rolled me on a stretcher into the hospital, Axcel following behind quickly. I was moved to a hospital bed in the emergency room. They hooked me up to a couple different machines, one monitoring my heart rate, the others doing who knows what.
Suddenly, I heard a dramatic cry from across the room and didn't turn to see, by instead, fixed Axcel with my best death glare. If looks could kill, Axcel would probably be dead a hundred times over. Fortunate for him, they couldn't.
"My baby! Oh Delilah honey.." Said my mom's hysterical voice. She ran to my bedside and gripped my hand, nearly pushing Axcel out of the way. Dad followed right behind her. "Oh sweetie, what happened? Are you okay?" Don't he me wrong, I loved my parents..they just got worked up over everything. And I mean everything.
"I'm fine, Mom.. In fact, I think I'm fine to go home now. Can't I go home soon?" I asked one of the nurses.
She hesitated then turned to my mother. "We're going to have to do some testing," she said calmly. "But when that's finished, you're free to go."
I let out a dramatic groan and turned my head to face Axcel. "Go on without me.." I gasped dramatically. My parents weren't the only drama kings and queens. I had a touch of dramatic talent myself. "I might be here a while. I'll text you when I get out. K?"
Axcel looked unsure but finally nodded. "Alright, make sure you text me as soon as you get out, okay?"
"Geez, anyone would think I'm dying here. Calm down, Axcel. I will live. I will get out of here soon. I will text you when I d. Understood? I'm afraid well have to conquer Middle Earth later."
My expression softened a little and I gave his hand a squeeze "I promise, I'll text you. Don't worry." I guess sometimes I was a little bit too harsh on him when he was just concerned. But the amazing thing was, he put up with me, even after all I'd put him through. That's a good friend, right there.
He nodded. "Okay, I'll see you later, Del," he said, and he left.
