Chapter 21

Jonghyun pov

"What.... what do you mean.... Nick's engaged?" the words were like alien to me. Nick?! Engaged?!

"Appa and Eomma arranged noona's wedding since she was born! I heard Appa and Eomma talk about it!" Dom sounded like he was explaining this all to a little child.

Nick.... was engaged? not even engaged... she was betrothed from the start?!

"That.... that can't be true.... maybe your parents were talking about someone else... Nick can't be engaged!" I shot up to my feet, Dominic watched me with interest.

"Hyung, what's the matter?"

"It's- it's nothing... Dom are you sure? are you positively sure?" I asked the little boy. He nodded strongly.

She can't get married.... she can't. Not to some stranger!

It won't happen.

I won't let it happen.

"I'm what!?"

"You're engaged." Father said quietly as if he was regretting everything... I can't...

I'm... only seventeen... this can't be happening....

"Father..... what did you do?!" I hissed through clenched teeth glaring at my father who stood there arranging his suit.

"It's none of your concern Nicole-"

"WHAT DID YOU DO?!" I grabbed him by the collar pushing him against Jonghyun's car. Father's eyes widened with surprise.

"It-it was a d-deal I made before you were born!"

"What... Kind... Of... Deal...."

"Our business was going down the drain... we needed to make a loan with another business.... to make sure we could pay off our debts... so we made a deal with another company...."

I could see where this was going.... he made a deal with another company. A deal that normally meant he would pay them back... but instead they asked for a child to marry their son.

To join the two business' together.

I let go of his collar collapsing to the floor. This... this is all true....

"Nicole-"

"Was it gambling? is that why you needed the money?" My voice was all croaky. It sounded like I was close to crying.

But I'm so tired of crying.

It's not going to do anything.

"W-what do you m-mean?-"

"Father I'm not stupid. Thats why you lost all your money in the first place isn't it? you went gambling and you had debts to pay to the people you borrowed from. And that's why you nearly went bankrupt...." Running my hands through my hair I let out a big sigh.

"Yes."

"I'm right. Of course I'm right." I wish I wasn't.

"I'm so-"

"Don't say sorry. It's such a crappy word."

"What do you want me to do Nicole? tell them the deals off? I can't cancel it now! I'll be ruined!"

"How selfish of you. As long as your name holds dignity you don't care that you've your daughter off to the devil." Chuckling under my breath, Father was looking at me with a new emotion.

Fear.

I guess I can make anyone scared of me huh?

"If you knew I was going to get married... then why did you let me join SM?"

"Because I wanted you to have a little bit of happiness... knowing I screwed up your past..."

Wow. How stupid.

"You have no idea how much I hate you right now. It's gone past hate. Its in the state where even you breathing is like a curse to me." I got to my feet and shoved my hands in my pockets walking away from him. Above me I could hear clouds starting to crackle.

As if they were crackling with laughter. White lightning sparking across the sky lighting the clouds up. It looked like a scene from a scary movie.

Jonghyun pov

So I walked Dom back to the building and was just in time to watch Nick walk away from her father.

She looked so lifeless...

Her shoulders slumped.. her head down... hands in her pockets....

She looked dead.

"Ahh.. erm... Jonghyun-ah... thank you for taking Dominic for ice cream." Her father approached me all smiles patting Dom on the head.

"Is it true?"

"What is?"

"She's engaged?" I didn't want to sound angry.... but in all honesty...

I was pissed off.

"Yes."

He didn't look like he cared.... he looked as if it was nothing important to him.

"What's the name of her betrothed?"

A single name passed his lips. A name I hated yesterday.... and hated even more now.

"Kim Hyun Joong."
