"And we're here," David announced as they pulled up to the house they would be staying at for the next week. The car stopped, and David and Liza hopped out and made their way to the gate where the house owner, Dan, was going to meet them.
"I don't think he's out yet," said Liza once they reached the iron bars. She glanced up at the house, which was even more amazing in person than it was on the website. There were giant glass windows that overlooked that ocean, the front lawn was filled with a colorful variety of plants, and a part of the pool was visible if you looked just past the garage doors.
"Here, let me call him," David told her as he pulled out his phone. He dialed the number, but it went straight to voicemail. "Damn it," he cursed under his breath.
"Why don't we just shout? I mean, he might hear us," Liza suggested. She could sense his worry, but she didn't see the problem. The pair had used the same booking website, Airbnb, in the past and never had an issue. Besides, he'd probably just fallen asleep to the crashing of the waves.
"I guess... DAN!," David shouted.
Laughing a little, Liza joined in. "DANNNN!!," they shouted in unison, but it was no use. Dan must have been a deep sleeper.
"Hey, is there a problem?," Liza turned to see the next door neighbor making his way towards them. He was a tall man, probably in his early 30s, with very defined facial features. A woman, who Liza assumed was his wife, stood on the front porch.
"Actually there is," David responded. "We rented this house for the weekend, and we were supposed to meet the house owner, Dan, out here."
"I'm sure he's just asleep or something," Liza said, "but if there is anyway you could help us contact him that would be great."
"Wait, did you say Dan?," the neighbor replied, a look of confusion on his face.
"Yeah," David replied.
"There's no Dan that lives here. Just a Mike. I have his number, if that would be helpful," he said as he reached for his phone. Now Liza felt the same dread that she had thought David was unreasonable for feeling. The neighbor handed his phone to David. "Here, it's calling him now."
Liza and the neighbor watched as David took the call, "Hi this is David Dobrik. I rented your place for the week, and my me and my girlfriend are at the gate.......Umm yes we did.......On Airbnb.......Yes I'm sure it was listed.......No I'm not interested in renting it out for $4,000 a night!!" He hung up the phone.
"Liza let's go," David fumed, storming off to the car.
"Umm, well thanks for the help anyway," Liza said to the man as she too headed towards the car. She climbed into the passengers seat and had barely gotten buckled when David began to speed off down the road.
"Babe slow down," she told him, but he didn't listen. "David!," she shouted, and the car skidded to a stop.
David pounded his fists down on the steering wheel. "$5,600, that's how must we payed that fucking scammer Liza, $5,600."
"I know," she said, allowing their situation to sink in. Tears were beginning to form in her eyes. It wasn't fair.
"I just wanted everything to be perfect for us, but now we're in the middle of fucking Hawaii, with no place to stay, and almost $6,000, just, gone," he continued tearing up as well. "We're just kids," he added.
"I know"
They shared a brief moment of silence. Then, Liza reached out for David's hand, and rubbed the back of it gently. David returned the gesture, and they both felt a little comfort. Everything was going to be all right.
They ended up staying in a decent hotel. They decided to order pizza, simply because neither of them were in the mood to go out.
Once they were done eating, Liza took a shower and David headed to bed. When she got out she dried off and put on her favorite robe before heading off to bed herself.
When she reached the bed, David was already fast asleep. Liza softly smiled as she watched his chest rise and fall. He looked so peaceful. She gently drew the covers back and slipped next to him. She cuddled up against his chest, and he put and arm around her pulling her closer.
"I love you, Liza," he mumbled into her hair.
She wasn't quite sure if he was fully conscious or not, but either way her answer was the same.
"I love you too, Dobrik"

Okay, so this was my take on the start of David and Liza's vacation to Hawaii. I felt so awful for them! My family uses Airbnb, so I know how scary that must have been. Please vote, and comment your thoughts and ideas below. Much love. -Josie
