"M-Manik, no," I muttered. My voice gave away that I was scared.
"No?" he smirked with a wicked gleam in his dark eyes.
"Please, d-don't..."
"Nandini..."
"No..." My heart was hammering inside my chest as I tried to keep my breath steady.
"Nandu!" Manik looked amused with a smile playing on his lips. His moods were as unpredictable as the weather. One second he would scare me to death, the next he would look so vulnerable and lost. I couldn't figure him out, not that I wanted to right now. I needed to get myself out of this situation as soon as possible.
"M-Manik your hand," I said, trying to distract him.
"Tell me more, Nandu," he grinned.
"Bandage, I need to..." My words came out gibberish.
"Your face looks...bloody!" He burst out laughing out of nowhere and let go of my face.
Talk about unpredictable!
"The look on your face is priceless!" He looked young and carefree as he continued to laugh at me. This was so different from his usual broody, monster self.
I was, however, fuming now. I stomped into his bathroom and slammed the door shut. Once I was inside, the memories of that night greeted me, but I quickly brushed them away and concentrated on getting his blood off my cheek.
After washing my face, I reached for a towel from his towel rack.
"Are you looking for this?"
I wiped the water from my eyes and found Manik leaning against the bathroom door with a towel draped over his arm. His bleeding hand was now bandaged and he looked like his jerky self.
"Manik!"
"You love saying my name, don't you?"
"Get over yourself!" I hissed. "And hand me that towel!"
"This is my towel, Nandu," he pouted.
"Ugh!" I was seething and pulled my blouse up to dry my face while cursing him mentally with all the bad words I could think of.
"What?" I snapped after I was done because he was staring at me.
"My-oh-my Nandu! I didn't take you for someone who would flash me. Nice bra by the way." His voice was low and husky.
Now it was me who was staring at him, realizing what I had done. My face turned beetroot red. I wanted the earth to swallow me whole. He had seen me in my bra for god's sake!
Manik sauntered my way, throwing the towel beside him. "Doesn't this feel like deja vu, Nandu? I remember a foggy climax scene," he purred and grabbed me by my arm.
"Manik!" I shrieked, my eyes wide with horror.
"Hush, Nandu. We haven't even started."
I didn't want to wait around to find out what he meant by that. I tugged and wriggled, but it was impossible to get out of his iron grip. Manik's eyes were hooded and dark.
"I-I have to get home, it's late," I muttered.
Instead of replying, he licked his lips and pulled me flush against his body. His hands were on my sides, digging slightly into my skin through my blouse.
"Manik!"
He ignored me and removed one hand to twirl a strand of my loose hair around his index finger. He tugged on it, forcing me to lean closer to him. He looked me deeply in the eyes. His pupils were dilated as we shared a few seconds of silence.
"What do you say about a truce?" he whispered.
"A truce?" My voice was faint.
"Between us."
I thought about it for a second. If I said no, he would surely torture me further.
"Okay..."
"Okay?"
I nodded.
"You disappoint me, Nandu. You didn't even ask what the catch is," he pouted.
Why was I so damn naive? Of course, there would be a catch when it came to monster Manik!
"What's the catch?" I growled, pulling my strand of hair from his finger while scowling at him.
"I want you to be my temporary secretary."
"Your what?" I spurted out in shock. Manik never ceased to amaze me, in a bad way that is.
"My temporary secretary."
"No way in hell!" I hissed. "Let go of me now!"
Manik furrowed his eyebrows, but he did not let go of me. Instead, his fingers dug further into the fabric of my blouse. His nostrils flared, and he gritted his teeth. The monster was resurfacing.
"So let me get this clear, you don't want a truce?" he asked in a low tone, articulating each word.
"No!"
"Fine," he said with a sudden big smile and let go of me. That smile gave me the creeps. "You may leave."
I didn't need to be told twice. I walked as quickly as my legs could take me out of his room and ran down the stairs towards the front door.
"Nandini?" he shouted from the staircase just as I was about to reach the door handle.
I turned around hesitantly and glanced up at him.
"Fab 5 will not only ruin you but also Rishabh," he said coolly, turned around, and went inside his room.
