CHAPTER TWO:

| ashton’s pov |

Beads of sweat decorated my forehead as I tried to quicken my pace.

I was late. So late.

I brushed hands with countless people and even bumped into some, but I didn’t have time to apologize to them. I was thirty minutes late for my date with Charlotte.

Finally catching sight of the café at the end of the street, I cheered internally. I thought it would be much, much farther.

Charlotte was reading a book. She didn’t look upset or angry, much to my surprise. I thought she would leave me and go back home.

I rushed inside and went straight to her, unintentionally ignoring the girl who greeted me as I entered. My arms wrapped around Charlotte from behind her seat, and she giggled.

“Look whose thirty minute-“

After kissing the top of her head, I cut her off. “Thirty-two,” I corrected, snatching her book away and sitting across from her.

Thirty-two minutes late,” she said, rolling her eyes playfully.

I grinned sheepishly, looking through her book. It was something about math, and I made a disgusted sound. Placing it on the coffee table, I looked her in the eyes, sincerely, “I’m really sorry I’m late, Charlotte. You know how bad I am with time, and I didn’t notic-“

It was her turn to cut me off. “It’s okay, Ashton. It’s not like you should always arrive on time.” She gave me a comforting smile that I couldn’t help but return.

“I promise I won’t be late again, Charlotte.”

“You could try,” she teased, getting her book and placing it in her bag.

“I’ll never make you wait. Never.”
