~Chapter Nineteen~

The silence isn't weird.

I don't know why.

Clay sits on the end of the bed, and just looks at me.

"What?" I say.

"No nothing."

"It's gotta be something."

He doesn't respond for a second. Then he talks. "How are you feeling?"

I mentally sigh. "I'm okay."

"You sure? I can go get the doc-"

"I'm fine, Clay, really."

"Okay." He smiles and takes my hand. "Look uh Ash-"

Dr. Paton walks in. I'm kind of relieved because from how he sounded he was gonna like speak his heart or something. Not a speech I would wanna be there for.

"Okay, how are we doin?"

"Maybe I should go.." Clay stands up.

"No no you should stay," She says, "This could effect your future together."

"Wait are you saying-" He starts.

"N-we, we aren't dating " I say.

"Ah I see. Alright." She says. I look at Clay. But he's already looking at me so I quickly abort. "Now. Can you tell me anything about what happened to your leg?" Dr. Paton asks.

"Yeah..." I take a deep breath. "Yes, uh.." I drift off. Anything including the plane crash makes me feel..feel....

"A medal compartment." Starts Clay.

Clay. He's explaining for me.

He continues.

"We recently survived a, a plane crash going to Hawaii. While we were crashing.." He loses concentration. "While we were crashing a medal bag compartment sitting above her seat fell on her."

"Thank you," Clays phone goes off. He checks it.

"Sorry, I have to go." He says.

Dr. Paton nods her head and continues writing her notes.

He comes and kisses me on the forehead. "I'll come see you later." I smile.

"Okay." I say. And he leaves.

Once he's gone, Dr. Paton comes and takes my blood pressure.

"Dr. Paton?" I ask before she leaves too.

"Yes?"

"Why did you, think that..."

"The way you look at each other." She smiles and walks out.

"Hey heeeeeey" I turn my focus away from the window, to see Rachel and Liam charge into my hospital room.

"How's sicky doing?" Liam teases.

"I'm not sick." I say. "I'm..uh...."

"Exactly! Your brain can't function to give me an answer."

I moan.

"Anyways," Rachel steps between us, "how ya feelin?"

"Oh, I'm better. Thanks."

"Has there been any visitors?"

I think for a second. Maybe I shouldn't tell them Clay has already been here... But then again..
