Pairing: Steve Rogers x Reader
Imagine: Getting injured at the signing of the Sokovian Accords
Warnings: NoneTo put in bluntly, you were not a fan of the Sokovian Accords.
When it was first brought you were torn. Natasha brought up the point that the Avengers had been making a lot of public mistakes lately, and that some proper politics could fix that. The Accords could fix that.
But ultimately you sided with Steve. You could agree that mistakes had been made, but in your opinion the good that the team had done outweighed bad. And you weren't about to let politicians decide what you were and weren't allowed to do.
Tony was the most betrayed with your refusal to sign the deal. The two of you had been great friends for as long as you could remember, as he was the one to first introduce you to the team and your eventual boyfriend Steve. But your friendship with Tony did not and would not take over your strong faith in the Avengers. It caused a lot of tension among the team, for obvious reasons.
However, despite your refusal to sign the accords, you'd come as extra security for the public signing and accreditation of the deal; per Tony's request. You may not be participating, but you were more than happy to help be sure the event was secure. You were an Avenger after all.
You stood in the high rise conference room, standing by the window. You split your glances in between the room around you and the city down below you.
A glance up showed Natasha talking to Prince T'challa, looking as professional as you'd ever seen her.
You stood silently, hands clasped behind your back as the King of Wakanda called the meeting into order. You spared a sweep off the street, blocking out the Kings speech on justice and accountability. Everything looked clear below, until suddenly a man jumped out of a white van and started yelling.
You eyes widened and returned to the meeting around you.
"Everybody get down!" You screamed, but it was too late. The words had barely left your lips when an explosion shook the building.
You stumbled to your knees, raising your hands to create a forcefield and stop the crumbling concrete from crushing you. People were screaming, and you grabbed and tossed debris with your powers the best you could.
You forced yourself up, pushing and pulling people out of the way and towards the emergency exits. The building was still shaking, and for a moment you feared the entire structure would collapse.
You could hear an awful sobbing, and after blinking some dust from your eyes you found Prince T'challa kneeling.
You ran over, resting a hand on his shoulder. "Are you alright?"
"My father," he cried.
The King laid in front of him, a giant slab of concrete on his chest.
You looked on grimly, ignoring your exhaustion as you raised your hands. Your magic enveloped the piece of debris, struggling and threatening to flicker out. It was heavy, so heavy, but all it took was the sound of the Princes pained cries for you to finally pull it off and toss it to the side.
The Prince rushed forward to check on his father while you swayed on your feet. You had never moved something so heavy. You felt something drip onto your face. You wiped at your mouth, pulling your hand back to find it stained with a bright red.
Your knees finally gave out and you collapsed onto the ground. You rolled onto your back, staring up at bright blue sky. Well that wasn't right.
Your vision was hazy, everything turning into blobs. The last thing you remember is seeing is a red blob over you and then-nothing.
----
The first sense that comes back is your hearing. You hear the usual annoying hospital sounds, which is where you assume you are. The beeping, the hum of machines.
And then a tv, a reporter talking about the explosion that rocked the city downtown and halted the accords, about the Winter Solider who reportedly started it.
You grew annoyed, even before you'd opened your eyes. Leave it to the government idiots to think the Winter Solider was behind this. Did they ever think?
You finally pried your eyes open and you took in your surroundings. you were indeed laying in a hospital bed surrounding by machines and monitors. Steve sat at your bedside, gently holding your hand. You smiled, mostly to yourself, and squeezed.
He turned to you at the response.
"(Y/n), thank god you're ok. Natasha called and I was so worried." He said in a rush, bringing your hand up to kiss it softly.
Your smile turned a bit more strained as you shifted and felt a sharp pain in your head. "I'm ok, swear. I just over did it."
You tore your eyes away from his calming blue ones to look at the tv. "It seems like we've got bigger problems than me, though."
Steve caught your gaze, shaking his head.
"You don't have any problem except healing and feeling better. You are officially off-duty."
You sat up to protest but instead of entertaining an argument he kissed you instead. It certainly shut you up. He pulled away and helped you lay back down.
"(Y/N), I love you, but please stay here where I know you're safe."
You muttered under your breath, knowing he was right. "Yeah yeah, love you too. Go kick some ass and get Bucky back-alive."
'Don't worry, he's not coming back any other way."
It sounded more like he was trying to convince himself, but you just nodded in agreement.
"I know. You go get him, then we'll prove he didn't do this and finally get him the help he needs. Whatever he needs."
Steve smiled down at you softly, with a look in his eyes that melted your heart.
"Kiss for good luck?"
He was never one to turn down a ladies request, so he leaned down and gave you another kiss that left your heart skipping.
You shooed him away from your bed, he had work to do.
"Go get on to work now old man," you teased.
"Did you just call me an old man?"
"Yeah, so get your old butt out there and get your man back!"
"Unbelievable."
You flashed him a Cheshire Cat grin, "Aw, you know you love me."
"You got me there."
