"My grandfather planted that tree when he was a boy. I used to swing from the branches......that was my favorite tree." Charles mused.

"Am I expelled?"

Charles patted the young boys shoulder. "On the contrary, you've just been accepted."

As Alex took his brother away Charles continued staring at the dead tree. His smile fell way to a slight grimace. He couldn't help the pang of sadness he felt. He had loved that tree.

"You alright, professor?" Hank came up behind him and asked.

He nodded, distracted with old memories. "Yes, fine..."

Hank nodded, not believing him, and pushed Charles back towards the institute.

~the next day~

"PROFESSOR!"

Charles was rudely awoken the next morning by someone slamming his door open and yelling.

"Hank, what on gods green earth do you want? It's Saturday," he groaned, sitting up.

"We have a visitor," Hank got out, trying to catch his breath.

This caught Charles attention, and he eagerly settled himself into his wheelchair and followed Hank. Hank stopped just by the front door, where a large group of people were cramming around the windows.

"I've kept them from going outside. Alex is out there with her now." Hank said pushing through the crowd.

"Alright, everyone back to their rooms until told otherwise." Charles called, his loud voice carrying.

Mumbles followed, but all the students listened. Hank opened the front door and followed Charles out.

"Now who is...." Charles trailed off, his eyes widening.

In the front lawn, sat a beautiful young woman with hair green as the grass on the lawn. But what really caught Charles' eye was the fact that she was sitting on what appeared to be a giant daisy.

The woman sat, unfazed, on her giant flower and talked to Alex.

Charles wheeled over and Alex stood up to greet him.

"Professor."

"Hello." You said, startling Charles.

"Hello, I am Charles Xavier, professor and-"

"Oh, I know who you are." You cut him off, smiling. "I'm y/n."

Your voice was like a babbling brook, smoothing over stones. You stepped off your seat and the flower slunk back down to the ground to its normal size.

"How on earth....." Charles trailed off, gazing at you in amazement.

"You'll find I have a way with plants." You lifted a hand, and obediently the grass began to grow until it reached your knees.

"That is quite extraordinary." Charles tried to move his wheelchair, however he was having some trouble with the newly grown grass.

You caught on and quickly set the grass to its original height.

He nodded in thanks and wheeled closer.

"I've come for safe haven, for a place to practice my gifts and not be afraid," you confessed, lowering your eyes to meet his.

"Come, I'll show you around." He began to lead you towards the door, but you frantically shook your head.

"Last time I went into a home I nearly destroyed it with ivy. I don't want to cause trouble." You wrung your hands.

You didn't notice, but with every movement of your hands the flowers around you waved and wiggled. Charles noticed, and found it adorable.

"Maybe just an outside tour for now, then." He took you all around the institutes grounds, and you were in love with all of the nature. Finally you got to the back, where Charles' favorite tree laid dead.

"What happened?"

Charles explained the incident and you didn't miss the sadness in his voice. Sadness didn't belong with someone like Charles, you decided, so you slowly walked over to the tree.

You knelt down beside the trunk and stroked it gently. You could feel eyes on your back, but you ignored it and focused.

"There there, little tree. Grow big and strong again for me." You whispered, tapping your fingertips up and down the trunk.

You watched in pride as the trunk began reattaching itself and healing.

You turned for Charles reaction, and found him in a state of shock. Hand over his mouth, eyes wide.

"Thank you, (y/n). I...deeply appreciate it." He murmured softly. His gaze seemed to look right into you and the leaves whispered around you.

"Not a problem. I better stay, hm? Who knows, you may require my services again."
