it was the day of the ball.

my father and finn expected me to fall in love with finn, somehow. part of me just wished i could have a good time, the other wishing i didn't have to go. i hoped i don't have to dance with finn. i wouldn't enjoy that.

would i be judged if i danced with a girl? yes, i would. everyone would. except my best friends: raven, octavia, and bellamy. raven was the mechanic of the kingdom, always busy, always fixing things. octavia was a scout, keeping out for danger. bellamy was a knight of the palace, he was the leader of the whole army. i smiled, remembering they were going to be there. hopefully they would take me away from finn so i wouldn't have to deal with him.

i put on a white, floral, flowing dress. it was specially made for me and i loved it. i remembered hugging my father for giving it to me. it was still my favorite dress to wear, because i don't normally like to wear dresses.

it made me wonder, what would lexa wear? i wanted to know. she was always beautiful, but i wanted to see her in formal clothes, to admire her. she's a good person, maybe my father would let me dance with her.

i met up with my friends, who admired my dress.

"wow clarke, you look amazing!" octavia squealed, and bellamy nodded and gaped.

"she would look better with the dress on my bedroom floor," raven smirked. i stared at her and gaped. everyone laughed and raven apologized, while octavia was in shock.

bellamy spoke, "did you invite anyone?"

i smiled and blushed. "yes, a friend i met the other day."

raven raised her eyebrows, "details?"

i told them about my encounter with lexa, and who she was. they looked a bit confused, and i could tell they were holding something back.

"what is it?"

octavia cleared her throat. "do you love her? is that why you invited-"

"no no, she's just a friend. that's all." i responded quickly. it was true, she was just a friend, i guessed. "also, my father found me a 'lover.' ugh. his name is finn-"

raven choked. "finn? like the tall-slender-creepy-touchy-annoying-finn?"

i raised an eyebrow, "yes, do you know him?"

raven shook her head, "sadly. he was my boyfriend until i broke it off."

i nodded and put my hand on her shoulder. "don't worry, i don't like him. i'll find a way to avoid him."

"we can help with that too," bellamy smiled and i did back.

there was a moment of silence, which was broken by people coming into the main hall. they greeted my friends and i, and the ball started. i went away from my friends to look for lexa. she had to be here right?

someone grabbed me by the arm and turned me around. because of the rough gesture, i already knew it wasn't lexa. it was finn. he smiled and eyed me up and down.

"someone looks amazing tonight. it's you, darling, i'm impressed."

i rolled my eyes, "thank you."

i tried to walk away, but he held onto my arm.

"let go of me!" i snapped.

"why do you hate me so much? i'm a good man, i want to marry you!" his eyes bored into mine.

"but who said i want to marry you!?" i almost yelled.

he glared at me. "well-"

"well, i think you should leave her alone, sir."

i turned my head to see the beautiful huntress of the wood. she was wearing a black dress with long sleeves, her hair braided just a little, resting on her shoulder. there were little flowers in her hair. the dress brought out the color of her tree green eyes. she was beautiful. as always.

finn cocked his head, "who are you?"

"a friend." lexa smiled. "now leave."

he muttered something under his breath and left. lexa turned to me and smiled.

she eyed me, her eyes soft. she then looked into mine, "you are so beautiful tonight, clarke."

i blushed. "as do you, lexa. wow- you're really- beautiful."

she smiled, revealing the crinkles under her eyes. it was adorable, honestly.

i broke the silence, "let's sit."

we sat at a table and admired the place around us. it was truly mesmerizing, with more than four chandeliers, five tables of delicious food, and a red carpet which matches the whole blood red aesthetic of the room. the orchestra played relaxing slow music, love music.

we talked about friends, family, out jobs, funny stories. her laugh was such a melodic sound. it made me smile, she always did.

"can i ask you a question?" lexa looked at me.

"yes?" i raised an eyebrow.

"clarke griffin, would you like to dance with me?"

my heart pounded in my chest. this was what i wanted. what a good time meant. i was smiling ear to ear.

"i would love to dance with you, lexa woods."

she smiled, eyes sparkling. she took my hand and lead me to the dance. it was suprising, she knew how to be the lead, she knew all of the dance. i was enjoying it, her smile, and mine, all at the same time. such i good time, the eyes on me didn't bother us. we did what we needed to, to be happy. to have a good time. i didn't care that people were whispering about us curiously. i didn't care that my dad was disappointed. the only the thing i cared about now was lexa.

she lifted my chin and smiled at me. i smiled back, happiness in my heart. it was a good feeling.

after the dance, everyone went back to what they were doing. and i hung out with lexa the whole ball. i didn't care about finding a prince, i didn't need one.

as soon as the ball was over, i made sure to avoid my dad or friends. i knew that they would ask. lexa walked me to my room.

"goodnight lexa."

"goodnight clarke. thank you for tonight."

"you're welcome." i blush.

she noticed and kissed my hands before leaving. her lips were so soft on my skin, so gentle, so inviting. is it bad to want more?

what was this feeling? i remembered asking. i realized i had answered my own question the other day.

"what was this feeling?"

"love is when you care about someone and want to spend your life with them. love is when you want to make sure a person is okay, and always happy. love is when you realize you can't live without a certain person. love- can be just a simple person."

i was in love.
