"no, a little lower."

lexa rested her hands onto mine and lowered them a little bit. "make sure your eye level is directly lined with the arrow." i nodded and adjusted, because what else could i do? "now, release." i let go of the arrow, and it marked directly into the middle of the target. i laughed in relief and lexa smirked at me.

"finally."

"shut up." i hit her arm gently. i put the bow and arrows down and turned back to her, finding her eyes already in my direction. she smiled softly and sat down in the grass. i sat next to her and sighed. "it is beautiful out here."

"yes. i always come here to train because it's so empty and relaxing. it makes me feel at peace."

i nodded. we were quiet and all you could get was our soft breathing. i turned my head to look at lexa, who was watching the grass flow in the wind. she seemed so at peace, so relaxed, so happy. she was beautiful when she was happy.

she turned to look at me, catching my gaze. i turned my head but she turned me back around by putting a hand under my chin.

"clarke?"

"yes?"

"can we start again?" she swallowed, some vulnerability in her green eyes.

"yes; you are forgiven, lexa." i smiled at her comfortingly.

"it was for my people, it was very harsh. but that's how we survive."

"maybe life should be about more than just surviving." she looked into my eyes, swallowing hard. "don't we deserve better than that?"

after the words left my lips, a comforting force was placed upon them. i closed my eyes as she put her hand on my cheek, and we relaxed together. this felt right. i could feel every emotion with the kiss, everything lexa was. everything i admired so dearly. when we departed, lexa smiled at me, her green eyes sparkling. i reciprocated her smile. she sighed and took my hand, lacing our fingers, rubbing circles with her thumb comfortingly.

"maybe we do." she put her arm around my shoulders and brought me close to her. and with that, i leaned into her chest and relaxed, listening to her calm heartbeat. my arms went around her waist, and our heartbeats seemed to line up. and i felt at peace.
