Chapter 2
A few days later...
Rydel POV
Riker has been really annoying to deal with lately. He just mopes around the house, and I honestly thought he would've been better by now. And he loses his patience and becomes annoyed so easily. He gets an attitude, and if mom or dad are around, they yell at him for it, which only puts him in an even worse mood. He's honestly falling apart without Jeff. Apparently they were closer than we all thought, and we never thought he would be taking it this hard.
I'd texted Jeff a few times. He seemed to be doing pretty good. He missed Riker too, but he seemed like he was doing alright at Dalton. He joined the glee club, and he told me he loved it. He also said school was keeping him really busy. He had made a study group with his friends Nick, David, and Trent.
I was actually sort of surprised that Riker was doing worse than Jeff. But... I guess Riker really loved him.
Riker POV
I sent Jeff another text. But like always, he didn't text me back. He was always 'busy' doing who knows what...
It was really frustrating to me. He told me I was and would always be his best friend, but if that was true, why was he barely talking to me!?
Jeff POV
"No," I groaned.
"You can't not go to dinner! Come on! You've barely eaten all day!" Nick said, trying to pull me off the bed.
"Because I'm exhausted! We had that calculus test that I stayed up to study for last night, and then class all day, and then study group, and then Warbler practice! I'm too tired to go down all those stairs to the cafeteria."
"Jeff, come on. Food will give you energy. You'll feel better."
"Ugh! Stop! You're going to pull my arm off!"
Nick grabbed under my arms, and pulled me off the bed, setting me down on the floor.
"Come on. Let's go."
"Fine..."
"Why does your phone keep dinging?"
"It's probably just Riker... I'll text him later. I'm too tired..."
Nick managed to get me out the door. We walked downstairs to the cafeteria to grab some dinner. We sat down at a table across from David and Trent. They were arguing over something from english class...
I sat down at the table, and put my head down on it. I was too tired to sit up.
"Hey. What's wrong with him?" David asked.
"He's just tired. I had to drag him down here just to make him eat something. Jeff, I'm going to go grab us some dinner, and when I get back, I expect you to eat."
Nick left. David started poking my arm.
"No..." I groaned.
"Come on. Sit up. You can tell Trent he's wrong about his theory from english class."
"No! I don't want to hear about school stuff! My brain is too tired!"
"Fine. Then at least sit up."
"Ugh!"
I sat up. Nick brought over our dinners, and I started eating. But I was sort of falling asleep.
"Jeff."
"What, Nicky?" I whined.
"Let's go up to bed before you actually fall asleep."
"Ok..."
I followed him back upstairs to our room, and then I collapsed on my bed.
"Hey. You have to change first. You can't sleep in your uniform."
"No... Too tired," I whined.
Nick got out my clothes for me, and gave them to me.
"I'm going to take a shower. When I get out, you'd better not be asleep in your uniform."
"Alright, alright..."
Nick went in the bathroom, and shut the door.
My phone started dinging some more as I started getting undressed. It was my brother.
"Ugh, Riker, just stop," I whined to nobody.
I finished getting changed, and then I crawled into bed, and quickly fell asleep.
Later...
Riker POV
"I have literally texted him all day long, and he only replied once, saying he couldn't talk during lunch because he was studying for a calculus test," I told Rydel, annoyed.
"Riker, seriously. I've talked to him and-"
"You talked to him!? So he'll answer your texts!?"
"No, Riker, that's not what I meant-"
"Why would he talk to you and not me!?"
"Riker, stop talking. Let me explain. I've talked to him, and he's been really busy lately. He joined the school's glee club, and he said his classes are a lot harder. And he also formed a study group with some of his friends. He's just busy. Cut him some slack."
"Ugh! This is so unfair! If he'd just stayed here, he wouldn't be so busy, and I could talk to him face to face!"
"Riker, if he had stayed, he would've been miserable and scared. You know this was the right choice for him."
"Whatever..."
I sent Jeff another text. I'd sent him like 5, just telling him to text me anything so I knew he was ok. But so far, I'd gotten nothing, and it was almost time for bed.
"Riker, why don't you try texting him tomorrow? Maybe he was just really busy today."
"Fine..."
I set my phone on my nightstand, and got settled in my bed. Rydel said goodnight, and then left. Rocky came in a little later, and went to bed too. I had a hard time falling asleep because I was stressing. But eventually, I fell asleep...
