Chapter 3
The next day...
Riker POV
Jeff hadn't texted me this morning, and I was still pretty annoyed with the whole situation. But luckily, it was Friday, so I had the weekend to look forward to.
I got dressed and had breakfast, constantly looking at my phone to see if I had any texts from Jeff. But I didn't.
Rydel told me he was probably in class since the time difference made him have to wake up earlier than me. But... whatever...
I got to class, and sat down, bored...
Jeff POV
I walked with Nick to study hall. He was rambling on about how he thinks we're not going to be able to win this year because the Warblers lost a lot of good singers last year when they graduated.
We went to the library because Nick needed to get a book for a research project.
"Oh my gosh, I have a million texts from Riker..." I mumbled, scrolling through my phone.
"What does he want?"
"He just wants me to text him back so he knows I'm ok... He still misses me a lot."
"Do you miss him too?"
"Of course I do."
I sent Riker a quick text, saying I was doing alright, and I've been super busy lately. And we got assigned a project on Monday, that was due in 4 days. Nick and I were partners for it, and we hadn't exactly started it yet...
He replied almost instantly, saying a bunch of random things that were a little confusing. He was mostly just catching me up on what was going on back at home.
I told him I had to go because Nick and I were going to start our project during study hall.
Later...
Riker POV
Economics... Last class of the day... Then the weekend. And hopefully I can videochat with Jeff.
All of a sudden, someone came over the loudspeaker.
"Attention all students, faculty, and staff, we are going into a lockdown. This is not a drill."
My teacher locked the door, and shut off the lights. We all went over to the corner of the room. I was sitting against the wall, and pulled my knees to my chest.
I went on my phone, and went on Instagram to see if anyone was posting anything about this. But nobody was. If this wasn't a drill, then something's seriously wrong. Normally, it wasn't uncommon to have this thing called a hold in place. And it was kind of like a lockdown, but we didn't have to hide. Normally it was just because someone threw up in the hall, and they didn't want people walking in the halls until it was cleaned up. But a real lockdown must mean something serious.
We'd had something like this 2 years ago. And it was because of some random sketchy guy outside the school. But they just wanted to keep us safe, so they made us go into a lockdown.
Everyone around me was dead silent. I was starting to feel really uneasy and a little scared inside.
I decided to text Jeff to try to distract myself from my current situation. I just sort of told him what was going on and stuff.
And then there was a loud bang from outside the classroom. And it sounded like it may or may not have been a gun. My heart started pounding, and I could sort of hear it in my ears.
