Chapter 4
The next day...
Rydel POV
Riker still seems really shaken up about the whole incident at school. He just seems like he's on edge, and he won't be in a room alone. He has to always be near someone, and if they get up and leave the room, he follows them.
I walked into Riker's room. He was doing homework, and hadn't even noticed I'd come in.
"Riker?"
He jumped about a foot in the air. Rocky started laughing.
"What?" Riker asked, blushing a little.
"Come here. Let's talk."
Riker followed me to my room. I shut the door, and we sat down on my bed.
"Are you alright? Like be honest, Riker."
"No, I'm not alright... I miss Jeff, and now I'm terrified that someone's going to come and shoot me."
"Yeah, you seem really jumpy since the incident."
"I'm scared to death, Rydel," he said, quietly.
"Hey. I'm sure you'll feel a little bit better in a few days. Everyone's still a little shaken up about the whole thing."
"They released the list of people who were shot, you know... I knew a bunch of those people..."
"Aw, I'm sorry, Rik."
I hugged my big brother. He felt really tense.
"Rik, you ok?"
"I'm just stressed out."
"I know... It's almost dinnertime though. Are you going to come down?"
"I don't know. My stomach sort of feels sick..."
"Riker, it's just nerves. And you barely ate last night, this morning, and this afternoon. You have to eat dinner."
"Maybe..."
"Rik..."
"Kids! Dinner!"
"You're coming," I said, grabbing Riker's hand.
Jeff POV
"Ugh! Why is this so hard!?" I groaned.
"It's not hard," Nick said, giving me a look.
"It is when you suck at history and english! I don't understand half of these words!"
We were working on our research project for history, and one of the books we were trying to get information from was very confusing.
"Hey. How's your brother doing?"
"Who? Riker?"
"Yes. You know, from the shooting?"
"Oh... I don't know. He hasn't really texted me that much."
"That's weird. Didn't you say he used to text you like a million times a day?"
"Yeah. He's probably just busy or something... Ugh, I hate this!"
"Well we're not going to get it done if you keep complaining about it. It's due on Monday, and it's already Saturday."
"I'm hungry. Let's go get food."
"Jeff... You're just procrastinating."
"No, I'm not! It's called being hungry!"
