Hello. I am Vision, an Android who was created by Ultron, who in turn was created by Tony Stark. Though my appearance may be... queer, I assure you, I am a friend.
If you can comprehend this, I shall have to think that you are much older than me. I am 286 days old; although that is the age of a human infant, I was already fluent in the language you speak at the moment I was born. In fact, I even assisted the Avengers in saving a falling city on my first day of existence. I assume your newborn cannot contest to that.
I have a lot to learn, particularly in social conjecture. You may teach me the basics of common courtesy, so that I do not come across as impolite to others. For example, yesterday I was told by Captain Steve Rogers that dematerialising to enter through the walls of a locked room was deemed as 'bad manners'. He had reacted strangely when I did that, and when I questioned why he seemed intent on frantically wrapping a towel around himself at the sight of me, he calmly informed that humans don't like to display their nudity to others.
After forwarding my newfound knowledge to Sam Wilson, Wanda Maximoff, and Natasha Romanoff, they confirmed, and suggested to have me clothed next morning so that I may feel more 'human'. Apparently, the cape and body suit was not suitable. Yesterday had been my last night as a nude man.
I began to flick through a men's fashion magazine, trying to decide what to materialise on my body when Wanda opened the door and peeked through.
"Vision, come in." Wanda invited, beckoning me through the door. Her Sokovian accent has a rough texture, yet is gentle to the ears. Abandoning the magazine, I joined her. She sat me down on the bed, and went to her wardrobe, picking through certain clothes. Her style was gothic; she preferred clothes that varied from dark red to black, which suited her formidable reputation as Scarlet Witch.
"I have something for you here..." She murmured.
"With all due respect, Wanda" I inputted. "I have observed that men and women wear different clothing. As I am commonly referred to as a 'he', I assume a man's clothing would suit me best."
She took out a simple white shirt, blue cardigan, and black trousers, holding them against me to check for size differences.
"You need men's clothes of course, you'd look hideous in a dress." She remarked. "But you do not know what gender you are?"
I shook my head. "I don't have any external factors to help me determine this. No genitalia, nor any secondary sex organs."
I gestured at her prominent mammillary glands to enhance the discussion. She cleared her throat awkwardly, and I noted my mistake immediately. She was the youngest Avenger in the group (if you don't count me of course) and conversations about sexuality tend to be too embarrassing for the younger humans. I changed topic.
"So, you occasionally wear a man's clothing? I hear it is acceptable for women of this generation." I asked, pointing to the clothes in her hands.
"Ah no, these belonged to Pietro." She said quietly, affectionately trailing her fingers through the folds.
The centre of my chest thrummed gently, with an emotion I couldn't quite put my finger on. Grief for her loss. Gratitude, for her charity. Guilt, for taking away her memorable possession. It seemed to be a mixture of all three. Emotions were difficult to understand, yet I recognised those as I had felt them before.
"Please Wanda, if you prefer keeping them, I would hold no grudge-"
The opposite effect occurred. She instead leaned into the closet to take out a stack of his clothes to give to me. "Take them. His size fits you perfectly. He never liked these clothes anyway; he always said they were too old-fashioned for him. It'll look good on you, I think."
I received her offering with a gentle smile. "Thank you Wanda. I shall treat this clothing well."
A fourth emotion buzzed through me, warm and comforting. I couldn't seem to put my finger on that one, but I enjoyed the sensation it provided. The symptoms grew when she smiled back.
