Wanda retired to her bedroom without another word. I paced around the living room, deep in thought.

Should I visit her right now? Beg for forgiveness? Or perhaps make her another dish in the morning, though I don't think that would work. I imagine that she felt betrayed by me. I had never ruined a relationship with anyone before, therefore had no experience in troubleshooting the issue. I searched my inbuilt knowledge for social policies, but found nothing specific of use. I considered calling a friend, but all of them were either busy or in dire trouble. There was one friend however, who had retired from the Avengers, and was living safely with his family-

Suddenly, there was a sound of explosion and the room glowed a spectacular orange. I floated towards the window to discover that the surrounding trees were on fire. Wanda heard the commotion and arrived to stand next to me.

"What is it." She asked nervously.

"Stay here please." I requested. My human clothes fell off as I willed my golden cloak and blue suit to appear on my body. I materialised through the wall. Using a burst of energy, I zoomed through the trees, looking for the source of the fire. The smoke was hazy, clouding my vision. But I thought I saw something that did not belong in the forest. Cans of gasoline.

Searching further inwards, I found an area of trees that were completely decimated by the explosion. And at the centre of it, was a single flaming arrow.

This was a distraction.

I zoomed back to the compound at top speed, materialising through the wall. Sure enough, he was there, pulling Wanda towards the door.

"You should not be here." I called out sternly.

Clint Barton sighed and turned around. "Really? I retire for what, five minutes and it all goes to shit."

Ignoring his sarcastic wit, I approached him slowly. "Please consider the consequences of your actions."

"Ok. They're considered."

I detested this. Not only because I knew I would have to fight a dear friend and Wanda's favourite mentor, but also because I knew I would win.

I launched myself towards him, but I felt a zap of electricity paralyse me into shock. I couldn't move, and I felt myself fading into unconsciousness. I could just hear their conversation.

"It's this way" Clint urged, pointing towards the door.

Wanda stood resolute, looking down at her hands. "I've caused enough problems."

"You gotta help me out Wanda. You wanna make amends, you get off your ass."

I concentrated on the source of this energy, and realised that they were on either side of me. Using instinct, I aimed my forehead at Clint's zappers and shot my golden energy beam to destroy them.

Clint noticed my progress. "Shit." He cursed, pulling out an arrow.

The arrow went through me without harm. I aimed a firm blow towards his chest, careful not to break any ribs, and he flew to the floor. Wanda watched us, confusion and guilt etched into the worried creases of her face.

Clint grasped painfully at his back. "I know I should have stretched." He moaned. He whipped out his bow, using it as a hand weapon. I easily dodged, blocked or dematerialised through his swipes, but I did not hit him again, knowing that if I did, it would be too much for my vulnerable human friend to handle. Instead, I hoped to tire him into defeat.

I instantly increased my density to the diamond state. He aimed three consecutive punches to my face, but I didn't budge. Giving up, he striked me with the bow, and it broke against my hardened lip.

Sensing his tiredness, I wrapped my arms around him in a headlock. He squirmed in my grasp.

"Clint, you can't overpower me." I stated.

"I know I can't." He choked out. "But she can."

I raised my head to look at her, daring to believe she wouldn't. Red eyes glared back as she cradled a scarlet globe in her fingers.

"Vision. That's enough, let him go. I'm leaving." She demanded with a shaky voice, staring me down.

"I can't let you." I pleaded, the words bitter in my mouth.

Her eyes watered. "I'm sorry." She whispered, the words causing something within me to die and decay.

She shot a stream of scarlet towards my chest, causing my functions to shut down one by one. Clint slipped through my grasp, and Wanda began to push me into the floor. My knees bent under her will, and the tiles below me began to crack under the pressure.

"If you... do this..." I managed to wheeze out with my remaining strength. "They will... never stop... being afraid... of you."

A tear slid down her cheek, her face twisted as if she was suffering the same pain I was. "I can't control their fear. Only my own."

My body wanted to fight back; I could feel the mind stone whirring, ready to attack the perpetrator with an energy beam. Gritting my teeth, I shut it down immediately. The perpetrator was sweet Wanda; she would never do this to me. This was simply a nightmare, and   I'll wake from it soon.

I recalled the last time she had attacked me in our training session. That had been equivalent to paper cut;  she had used her powers sparingly. However, this was a knife plunged and twisted cruelly into the heart. I couldn't differentiate whether this was because she was more powerful than I believed, or because the pain was mingled with the emotional torture of knowing that she intended to hurt me.

Wanda grunted, expelling more of the vibrant red mist from her palms. She directed the powerful force on to me, and the floor under me broke.

And so did the next floor. The next one. The next one. And the next one after that, until my weakened body lay in the debris of the basement. Black spots appeared in my vision, but I saw her peering down the hole she created.

"Ow." Clint commented, his voice echoing down the well. "Let's go."

Wanda stared at me a few more seconds. Then she left.

And I blacked out.
