“Allie girl! How are you?” Layla was in her usual self today. I didn’t know why she is talking to me at all. We’re not entirely close.
“What are you up to Layla?” I slammed my locker door shut. I had a bad summer and now it’s the first day of my senior year and I have to put up with this blabbermouth.
“I heard that you and Luke have broken up.”
“I don’t know where the hell you have heard that, and all I could say is mind your own beeswax.” I spat at her. I can’t imagine where she had stuck her ear to know that bit of info. I never told anyone.
“Aw… Well, it’s okay, girl. I’ll let you in on some juice.”
“Not interested!” I quicken my pace towards first period English. And to my surprise she caught me by the arm. I was too stunned to shrug her off me.
“I heard that Juli was behind all this.” She whispered.
I was able to free my arm from her grip. “You better watch what you say Deleila or you are going to get it.” And with that, I turned around, off to class. I could hear her laughing in the background. “After all, Allie, you are so blindly in love with Luke that you didn’t see that they have grown fondly for each other. After all, all college boys would like a college girl for a girlfriend. And remember, they are the ones who were classmates. You just happen to meet Luke by the end sophomore year. How naïve. Three truly is a crowd.”
Honestly, I was half listening to her. I didn’t care. What does she know? But I have to admit, it hurt. All of a sudden, I entered English 4-A with tears pouring down my eyes.
