Chapter Twenty Nine~UNTIMELY DEPARTURE

It was 8am. I was still debating in my head whether to go to Luke or not. I already apologized to Andie and he said he’ll be there when I need him. It was two months since that day and Andie started dating a girl name Jennifer from Class 2-B of the accountancy department. They seem to look well together. At least Andie is finally happy. I have to finish this. I went up to Luke’s house and when I reached there, Mr. Winslow (the gardener) came up to me. “I’m sorry, Allie, but Luke left.”

“Oh, when is he coming back?”

He looked at me with surprise, “You didn’t know? He went off and migrated to UK, saying that he needed to broaden up his skills in the piano and he’d like to play in a world class orchestra.”

Ah yes, Luke’s childhood dream.

I thank Mr. Winslow and turned around, back to the car.

“Wait, Al, I forgot to tell you something. When Luke went away, he told me if ever you’d come here for any reason, I’d tell you to check the garage…”

I went there all right and there is nothing that looks amiss until I saw a small box on the bench where I usually sit.

“This is a little something. More like a sorry and parting present if you ask me.” Was written on a card on the gift.

When I opened the box, inside was a necklace with the yin pendant inside. The one I wanted from the Christmas fare a year ago when the kid stole my wallet and when I got it back the pendant was already bought by him…

And at that, I cried…

“Idiot, why did you have to leave?” I whispered in the cold garage of Luke Verhona…
