To my surprise, Luke was the one who bought my dress for tonight. It was a deep shade of green, color of the deep dark forest. It was a plain little dress with a lighter shade of green as a petticoat and a glittering tulle. It had a straight cut on the chest. I didn’t dare wear any jewelry, it is not common for me to do so.
“All ready Al?” My brother asked.
“Allie! My dear you look so stunning.”
“Thanks Mom.”
“Off we go.”

As expected. Juli’s motif for her debut is blue, blue of every shade stood out and all of the guests wore blue. I, in particular, was embarrassed of being the only dark shade of green in the guests. And then there she was, her grand entrance with her father. She was wearing a light blue ball gown which glittered every time she moves.
“Hey you.” Luke smiled at me, wearing a polo with the same shade as me.
“Why didn’t you tell me that the motif is blue?”
“Because I want us to stand out.”
Great.
So the party started and I sang when it came to the eighteen roses event. Part of me didn’t want to watch when it was Luke’s turn to dance with Juli but I forced myself to smile. Juli looked so happy. Acting or not, I didn’t want to spoil Juli’s day. When everyone was seated and eating, Juli came over to the band area and started hugging and chatting with me.
“Oh and Luke, I want you to come up front later and sing a song for me.”
“What song would that be?” Luke asked.
“Tell you later. I know the band knows this.” Then she took off to her guests.
Okay… That was weird… I gave Luke an encouraging smile.
“Hey there everybody!” Juli said over the mic, “Now everyone is seated and happy with the food by the great Chef Jonny, thank you so much. And thank you for coming to join me on this special day of mine. I know most of you are busy especially my two best friends Allie and Luke. Thank you! And Luke, I’d like you and Allie to come in front please. Don’t be shy.”
I can understand if only Luke was called but why me as well?
“And people you know why these two are the only one who wore green this evening. No they are not stupid; I allowed them to do so. Aren’t they cute together?”
I awkwardly stood in the middle of the ballroom.
“Allie, sit here please.” Pointing on the seat beside me. Then she walked towards the others and started telling them what to play. And with a nod, “Ladies and gentlemen, a round of applause for Luke Verhona as he serenades his girl!”
WHAT?!? This wasn’t part of the plan. Luke seemed to look as horrified as I was. We agreed to be a couple just for show. I didn’t expect this to happen.
The guitar sounded and immediately Luke and I knew the song. I was stunned and looked at Juli hopelessly begging for her to spare me the embarrassment…
Seems like so long since I last held your hand, kissed your lips, felt your touch, how do you make me miss you so much~
…
I know we’ve fallen hard so many times before, but I’m still in love with you~
Luke, you owe me big time if Juli ever found out.
