Unforgivable! Totally unforgivable! So okay, serenading me in front of a crowd is no big of a deal. But kissing me after the song? Are you nuts? Sure, I agreed that we will act as normal as a happy couple could be. But, seriously, this is way out of the line.

“Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!” Juli started chanting at the end of the song. The crowd slowly followed while chiming their silverware on the wine glass (a common gesture for telling married couples to kiss).

“Oh no, really, don’t.” I looked back at Juli, begging her to make some sort of a reason not to make us do so… But no, she chanted on… This feels awkward. I couldn’t bear to look at Luke right now. But, he made me face him with his hand. And then it happened. I felt his lips on mine and I was too stunned to move. I just froze. What seemed to be a minute too long, he pulled away. The crowd went wild and I saw him smiling at me as though this was normal. Well it is not normal!

“Allie! Please, wait up.” Luke called out as I rushed to the parking lot. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do. I felt angry and confused, like I’m being fooled with.

“Why? In front of all those people!”

“Because they asked for it. We have to act like a happy couple.”

“Great acting! Now how are we to convince Juli that we are no longer together huh?”

He kept silent for quite a while.

“Forget it. It is YOUR problem now. I just want to go home.”

My brother went out with some friends tonight so I have to endure an awkward ride back home with Luke. Both of us were silent throughout the ride. When he reached the final turn towards home, he stopped.

“What’s wrong?” I asked.

“I’m sorry…” he said in a whisper.

“Wha—” he cut me off with another kiss. This isn’t like the one he gave me earlier. This was much sweeter, more of a sorry kiss. I wanted to push him away but somehow I couldn’t. When we broke away, my cheeks burned and I looked at him quizzically. He looked away from me and started the engine once more. Again, the silence between us thickened now with the question hanging in the air. He stopped in front of my house and I went down, “Good night, Luke.”

“Good night, Al.” then he drove off. I checked my watch for the first time tonight… 12 am. Midnight. Our one-day-as-a-couple deal has finally ended and I doubt I’ll be hearing from him anytime soon…
