Three is a Crowd

Chapter Fourteen~CHRISTMAS WITH YOU

It was him. How long have I not seen him? My fingers went cold. Why would he want the pendant for?

Probably for a girl, my subconscious mind told me.

 Claire might have felt my tension. She tugged me and I followed. The problem was people started to come closer when he started singing. The crowd grew thicker. Luckily, I couldn’t hear Luke’s voice through the crowd. Since my bag was in danger of being stolen through this thick crowd, I raised it above my head.

“There!”

And the crowd parted. I suddenly felt awkward, as though all eyes suddenly went to me.

Get out of there, my mind shouted. But I am rooted to the ground.

“Kindly turn around Miss and come to the stage,” Luke said in his flirty voice. I can see Claire. Her mouth was wide open, mouthing me, “What’s going on?”

I lowered my bag and turned and he suddenly looked as stunned as I am. “Well! What a pleasant surprise! Everybody this is my good friend Allie Garnet from high school! Everyone please give our volunteer a hand.”

I didn’t understand why everyone even clapped and why I walked towards the stage. What did I get myself into this time?

When I reached the stage, I asked Luke immediately what just happened. Then I understood… I just accidentally raised my hand when he asked for a volunteer from the crowd.

“So everyone, this is Allie Garnet, a senior of Grand Heights High School, the same school where I went last year. And I know she is quite a singer so I know she won’t disappoint you.” Luke said, handing me a microphone. I was surprised and angry at the same time; surprised that I was here, standing with him on stage, and angry at myself for raising my stupid bag. Being stolen is better than humiliated in front of this many people.

Then the live band started playing. It was a familiar song. It was a Jason Chen original, my most favourite singer. It was an original Christmas song sung by both Jason Chen and Joseph Vincent. But, forget about the details, this is a song for two men! My pitch will be higher with the danger of getting out of tune.

I wake up to the thought of you~

I haven’t seen your face since June~

He sang beautifully and I too was stunned. I forgot I was about to sing too.

I found myself up late each night~

Everything I see reminds me of you~

All I want to do is spend my Christmas with you~

And the crowd cheered by the end of the song. I, too, enjoyed. Everyone wanted an encore and somehow, I agreed. And the rift of the first tune of “Just Give Me a Reason” by Pink ft. Nate Reuss was sounded and everything became a blur.

When the song ended, the crowd ‘roared’ and somehow, Claire was jumping up and down as well.

Luke gave me a full hug which seemed awkward for me. At that moment, I forgot he ever became my boyfriend. All I could remember is that he is my best friend and somehow, nothing would ever change.
