I stood in the far corner of the ballroom. Daphne was out socializing with a group of girls I didn’t recognize nor wanted to talk to. I was completely fine with staying in the shadows; no matter how many times Daphne motioned for me to come to her.

I was about to just leave and go sit outside in the garden, when someone caught my eye. He looked to be about as bored here as I was.

“So you’ve found him, then?” Daphne made me yelp in surprise and grasp my chest to check my pounding heart. ”Sorry”

“It’s alright and yes”

“Maybe we should introduce you”

“No!” But she had already started away. “Daphne no! Daphne get back-! And she’s gone”

I watched helplessly as she went up to Draco Malfoy giddily and spoke with him excitedly, motioning to me a lot. Every time he looked over, I quickly pretended to be interested in something to make it seem as though I wasn’t staring. It wasn’t the best idea since there really isn’t anything interesting about the ceiling.

I stared at my shoes as she walked him over to me. I didn’t know what I was going to say or how I was supposed to act. Was I supposed to act different than Victoria? Was I supposed to make him not like me so I wouldn’t be suspicious?

“Astoria?” Daphne said and I looked up and nearly fell to my knees. Draco looked so handsome and it had been so long since I had seen him. “This is Draco Malfoy. Draco, this is my younger sister Astoria” Daphne finished.

“Nice to meet you” I said in my accent, though it was very quiet.

“Very nice”

We shook each other’s hands and lightning went through my body. I could have sworn his eyes showed the same thing. We both quickly let go of each other’s hands as soon as we realized we had just stood there looking at each other for a few minutes.

“Well! I’m going to let you two…um… bye!” Daphne quickly walked away from the awkwardness. I glared at her back for forcing me into this.

“I didn’t know the Greengrass family had a second daughter or even a second child” Draco said, looking at me thoughtfully. I looked to the floor, blushing. Something about what he said made me get butterflies in my stomach.

“I get that a lot. I suppose I’m not really something to brag about” I said, really meaning it.

“Well, parents. They can be pretty brutal sometimes. They can drag you into their mess and take you down with them”

I smiled and nodded wholeheartedly. I wasn’t sure he knew how true that was to me since he really didn’t know it was me.

We were both leaning our backs against the wall and looking at the floor. It was a comfortable silence that we were in. A silence where we were both thinking and not aware that the other was too. It was a silence where we were unaware of the silence.

But just a song had to ruin it.

Just a song had to ruin my silence and my moment of happiness where I wasn’t aware that I was someone else.

Just a song had to ruin the time when it was just Victoria and Draco, and shove Astoria into the picture, bumping Victoria back to the grave.

“This is a song dedicated to someone our parents want us to forget, but we won’t! I say screw them, she was one of us!” One of the boys said into the microphone. I was used to the people here being rebellious against their parents, but why did they have to go and play this song?

“Excuse me” Draco said, not looking at me, and nearly sprinting away. I sighed and let my head fall against the wall as I closed my eyes.

I somehow knew something like this would happen. I can’t be with Draco like Victoria was, it would be too risky. I would just have to let what just happened be forgotten.
