Just as I'm setting out the last pieces of cutlery and lighting the last candles, I hear a car door shut. Em must be home. I see her walk up to the front door over our snow-covered front lawn, giggling at the giant Father Christmas I put out there this morning, looking as gorgeous as ever. She's wearing her long, faux fur coat and large, yet still elegant winter boots, as her chocolate brown hair falls gracefully down one shoulder and over her flawless olive skin. What a lucky girl I am. The front door opens and closes gently, followed by stamping of boots and the sound of her keys jingling. I can't bear the excitement anymore as I run out to the front porch and practically leap into her arms, kissing her softly on the head. She smells like cinnamon and cocoa and warm, crackling fires. God she's so perfect. I can't believe anyone ever tried to hurt her. I quickly push that thought out of my head. We try not to mention 'A' anymore, it just brings up a chapter of our lives we'd rather forget.

'Happy Anniversary Ali. I love you so much' Emily says, although it's muffled because she's resting against my shoulder, which is draped with the stunning cashmere sweater that Em got me for my birthday.

'I love you too baby, you look amazing' I reply, talking into her silky, soft hair.

I lead her to the candle-lit dinner table, where her favourite meal is sitting on a huge serving plate, looking delicious; Mac n Cheese with garlic bread. I decide not to tell her that Aria made it for me, but she's probably guessed anyway, as we both know I can't even cook a tin of soup without burning the entire house down. A few years ago, when I was staying at Em's, I tried to surprise her by making dinner as she went out to the store (I was too scared to cook anything apart from grilled cheese) and she came home to me sobbing because I'd set her oven and somehow, her sink on fire.

We sit down as Emily giggles with excitement. Her laugh sounds like the angels are talking, it's so beautifully perfect. I gaze at her across the long table as we laugh and talk and eat for hours. Finally, we move to the couch in the next room and I turn on some lights. I can't go any longer without properly seeing her smile. I pour us a glass of red wine each as she bends down to the floor and brings up a huge bouquet of yellow and pink roses; my absolute favourite, and a small box with silver lettering printed over the front.

'I hope you like them' she says with a hopeful smile on her face. I smell the roses and grin with joy; they smell almost as good as Emily does.

'They're gorgeous, thank you Em' I whisper. I take the box from her delicate hands and open it slowly. Inside is a silver necklace with a rounded charm that's spotted with diamonds and reads 'Alison Fields, 20.12.15'. My eyes fill with tears of joy as I look up at Emily's coffee coloured ones and smile wider than I thought was possible.

'I love you so so so freaking much Emily. Thank you, it's so beautiful and I'll treasure it forever' I croak, trying to hold back the tears. She smiles and looks down at the floor.

'What?' I laugh.

'It's just, I thought in the car, those exact words, that you'll treasure it forever, and I don't know, I just love that you're saying it in real life. I just love you.'

'Awh Em. You have no idea how much I want to kiss you right now.' I say as I lean in and kiss her gently on her rosy lips.

'My turn' I smirk as I pull away and reach down behind me for Emily's present. It's a photo frame with 'Emily My Love' engraved across the bottom and her favourite picture of us in. I personally hate it, my skin looks bloated and my hair is flat and soggy, as Emily had just been teaching me how to swim properly, but I'll do almost anything for her, even if it includes displaying a gross picture of myself for everyone to see. As she rips off the wrapping paper, the corners of her lips curl up and the dimple on her left cheek appears. Emily was never as good as I was at holding back the tears, and she lets them flow and she jumps over to me and hugs me so tightly I can barely breathe, but I don't care. Just to hold her is the most extraordinary thing anyone could ever experience. The perfect curves on her hips, her toned stomach, her muscular yet still gentle and loving arms. We don't say anything for a while, we don't need to. We have everything right here, right now, everything we'll ever need. I want to stay in this moment, never move or see anyone else apart from this angel in my arms. This love is something I can't explain.

I really hope you're enjoying my story so far, I'll publish chapter 3 soon where Emily receives her life changing news!
