BlurryFace is a character Tyler uses to call the voice in his head. He made the character to better explain what goes on in his head. Obviously not to anyone else, just to better comprehend his thoughts to himself.

You see, BlurryFace is a mask. Not the happy, Mardi-Gras mask with bright colors and sparkles. No. A mask. One he suffocated in. One of faded color. Except he didn't get a choice between masks. And somehow, he always had his blurry mask on. But, don't be mislead-the mask he wears is to alter his face, to make him seem fine.

Blurry was just like any other sick, twisted, evil person. What other people saw on the outside of a person, or mask- looks fine, happy. Positive. But on the inside, representing the back of Tyler's mind, is evil, suffering. Pain. Discrimination. Death. Blurry. Nothing killed him more than his own head.

Then, between both sides of Blurry-the mask and his head-there is Tyler's face. His expression. Trapped. Between the fake and the evil. But, Blurry and Tyler are both competitive people. And all Blurry desires is winning... Just like Tyler. He took everything from him. His will, his faith, even his dreams. Oh what a show it would be for Blurry, if he could just fall.
Haven't you taken enough from me?
Won't you torture someone else's sleep?
-as read in his most recent poem.
Poems helped express how Tyler felt. They were a way to escape his thoughts and comprehend them even further than just naming voice in his head.

Tyler refused to believe that blurry was just himself thinking about his flaws. No, blurry was a real person trapped in his head for so long that he became angry with Tyler. He pointed out his flaws and commented on stupid things he says or does.

Blurry had no face. Tyler didn't want to imagine it. So, therefore saying, his face was blurry. Blurryface.
