Kenneth's POV

"Alright, thanks."

I end the call and finish writing down in the file of  the western city, what I last heard. I was talking to Kayline and she was the last alpha to give me a report. Since the war was now over, we had been working on rebuilding the packs that got destroyed and returning the sense of security to our people. Each chosen alpha did their job in their city and they reported back to me of their situation. I am glad that each city is fine and the packs are well protected.

My phone vibrates on my office table and I pick it up to read the text.

Your father is ready to talk to you now.

I read the text from my father's personal nurse. My father has been gravely ill since I came back home with Roman over a month ago. I had been trying to get to talk to him but it wasn't possible.

I sort out the files on my desk and then walk out of my office. I lock the door then begin the short walk to where my father's room is. I knock on the door before opening it and entering the room. I nod to the two nurses that were attending to my dad as they leave the room to the two of us. I take a sit on the chair beside the bed.

"Hey dad."

"Did you bring your mate home?" He ask in a raspy voice, his gaze on the ceiling above.

"Yes father."

The room becomes silent as I debate with myself on how to ask him about my mother. I know he must know of Monroe's death because Monroe was his mate. I don't know if it's appropriate to tell him about his mate's death or to ask him about my mother. I understand some things are best to remain unknown but I really wanted to know about my mother and my father before me is the best person to tell me about it.

"Your mother was very beautiful."

I snap my head up to face my father who has just spoken, breaking the silent in the room. Even though he isn't looking at me, I manage to see the painful look in his eyes and I regret coming here. He was already in pain and possibly remembering about mother is adding to that pain.

"Dad,"

"Don't stop me son. I've wanted to tell you about her for a long time but it never felt right like this moment." He turns to me slowly and our eyes lock on each other. He gives me a small smile and I silently nod for him to go on.

"The first time I met her, we were little and she helped me find my way home. Only to find out when we were older that home was where she was with me and neither where we both lived. I had my duties as a soon to be alpha and she had her duties as a Queen, so we made sure to never jeopardize that. It was confirmed I had no mate when I never experienced a mate call in my young days. It was that reason that made me not to hold back but to fall in deep love with Eleanor as did she.

"Not everyone has a second mate and I didn't hope for one either. That's why I was surprised when I met Monroe. I was already old enough to do a mating ceremony and my dad made sure I did that with no time to spare. I had not met Eleanor for months and when I did, I told her about Monroe. She didn't go crazy on me and we ended things cleanly. But even if we separated, she was still in my heart and I felt guilty of loving another woman more than I did my mate.

"A few months later, the elf promised to Eleanor found out she was with child. This was what caused havoc in her kingdom and the news spread to my kind thus the war beginning. It was a little problem but enough to start a raging fight between the two kinds. I didn't believe she had you until you were delivered to me by her trusted warriors. She died protecting her people and I understood the reason for her actions."
