Honestly, I feel so pathetic in the way I asked, but that's okay.
I waited until our English class ended, then I called out to him. I asked him what plans he had and he said it was his birthday. Of course, I knew that, but a part of me wished that he wasn't doing anything, but I already knew from all the eavesdropping I do. I pushed on, acting clueless, asking about what he'd be doing specifically. Then he said he'd be fishing all day. Of course. What better way for him to spend his birthday?
But somehow I stayed hopeful for our future relationship:
He rubbed the back of his neck and looked down at the ground with an apologetic smile. And when the word "date" came out of my mouth, I swear he did a double take.
So if all can be fixed with just that little smile, if all can be forgiven... then maybe you'll say I'm too kind and too merciful.
Now, think that thought again and tell me what's wrong with it.
End of problem sixteen.
