Crash!
“Don't you know how to drive this thing?!” Dean shouted, grabbing onto the railing.
“Well, she appears to be unhappy!” The Doctor shouted back, wrestling the controls for control.
“Then why on earth would we be doing this, then?” Sam shouted, nearly getting tossed over the railing. He slammed next to his brother and looked over at him. “He's insane, Dean.”
“I prefer madman! And always with a box!” The Doctor ran around, trying to stabilize his TARDIS. “What's wrong, ole girl? We're just jumping parallel universes!”
Bang!
The entire ship rocked, and the Doctor flew back, flying into the two brothers. “Well,” he said, readjusting his bow tie, “you're not going to cooperate, then? Sorry, sexy, but we're having an argument.”
Sam gave Dean a questioning look as the Doctor walked back to the controls, but he only shrugged. “It's a girl. Maybe they're a thing.”
“A man and a box?”
“Hey, you've dated demons and spirits before.”
“Oh, will you please let that go?”
“Just saying, Sammy, it's not as weird as you think. We do stuff that people around us think is impossible. Now we're in their shoes.”
“Thank you for that philosophical statement.” The Doctor grunted, trying to pull a lever. “Now, will you do me a favor and pull this- wait, I have a sonic screwdriver.” He let go and pulled out his device, pointing it at the lever and pressing the button. It glowed green and beeped, and the lever slowly moved down. “Never mind, continue.”
Sam stared. “Is that a sonic screwdriver?”
The Doctor looked over. “Why, you've heard of them?”
“It was in the same article as the Cybermen.”
“Cybermen? Here!?”
“Well, not anymore. They just...disappeared.” Dean scratched his head. “Never figured out how.”
“Just like that? Wait a minute, that means-” before he could finish, the TARDIS jolted, then stopped moving. “What, is that it?” he looked at the ceiling. “That's all you wanted? A lever?!”
“The thing doesn't have a conscience!” Sam yelled at him, which was followed by a very very loud boom. “Okay, maybe it does.”
“No, that was just the door.” They all turned, and heard the booming again. “Something is at the door.”
“And we've landed, right? So it's from our planet.” Dean grunted, pulling out a pistol and cocking it. “That means it can die.”
The Doctor looked at the gun and turned away, then turned back, gasping and pulling it out of his hands. “Under no such circumstances will we be shooting them! Honestly, all of time and space, and I just happen to get the serial killers.”
“Hey, we are not serial killers!”
“Yea, we kinda are, Dean.”
“Hey, who's side are you on?”
BOOM!
The TARDIS shook, but the Doctor didn't budge. He stood up, tall and confident, and walked over to the door. He turned around, looking at his two new companions questioningly. “Well, are you two coming or what?”
“Wait, you're going out there?” Sam asked, pointing to the door. “That thing could kill us!”
“I've faced a lot worse over the years than a door booming, boys.” He smiled, and for a moment, there was a gleam in his eye that shook fear into the hunters' bones. Then it was gone, replaced by madness and joy. “Well, let's go, then, come on!”
The two of them glanced at each other nervously, and reluctantly stood. They walked over by his side, and tried to look confident.
“Well,” Dean said, looking around. “We got picked up by a random guy with a time machine, found out the space ship has a personality-”
“TARDIS!!” the Doctor shouted, glaring at him. “Honestly, you think after 1700 years, people would realize the difference...”
“I'm sorry, what?” Sam turned, jaw hanging. “1700 years old?! No human can live that long.”
“Good thing I'm not human.” he rolled his eyes. “Honestly, didn't you catch that when I said she didn't have a thing for humans?”
“Wait, you're an alien?!” Dean stared. “Well, add that to the list. Anything else we should know?”
“Well, let's see...I'm a Time Lord, I have a lot of people who hate me, people who are with me occasionally die-”
“Sounds like us.” Sam joked. “Except for the Time Lord part. What exactly do they do?”
“Well, I travel. I save worlds. I also blew a few up, accidentally...but for the most part, I just break a lot of rules.”
“Okay....what's with the emphasis on you? What about the others?”
The Doctor's eyes grew very old for a moment. “They're.....well, they're all gone. Lost in the greatest war of all time and space.”
At least, until now, possibly. He thought. He didn't say anything, however, because it was his secret to keep.
“Well, I'm sorry to hear that,” said Dean. “But I think we should check out that-” he stopped. “Do you hear that?”
Sam listened. “No, I don't hear anything.”
“Oh...” the Doctor pressed his ear against the door. “But that's just it. Where did the noise go?” he turned and grinned. “Well, let's go see.”
“Ladies first.” joked Dean, shoving Sam to the door. The door opened without being touched.
“Thank you for being so kind and letting my TARDIS be the first one, Dean.” he patted his shoulder as he walked out. “Do you pick up all of the girls like that?”
Sam laughed as he followed, glancing at Dean and shrugging. He didn't know who this Doctor guy was, or even what he was, but he liked him. Dean followed behind him, thinking the exact same thing, except he thought this guy was trouble.
Far, far away, a man sat on a chair in an empty room, looking out a window down at a park. Children played and laughed while their parents sat on benches, talking while drinking their coffee. He watched them go down the blue slide, climb through the green and yellow tubes, and swing on the red swings. He watched them build sandcastles, play hopscotch, and jump rope. He smiled to himself, taking a sip out of his soda can. And so he is, Dean. And so he is.
