“What do you mean you can't go?!” Everyone seemed to yell the same thing at once. Even the wizards, who didn't know this strange boy, knew that the plan relied on Leo.

“I'm sorry, but no, I can't go.”

“Why not?” Jason asked, trying his best not to lose it. “Suddenly you just decide not to be apart of our plan. The day before we do it? Something happened, so what is it?”

“It's personal.” Leo said, his jaw clenching. Nobody knew about Calypso, and he wasn't going to drop it on them right now. He sighed. “Look, I had a dream last night.”

“Well, now we have a reason for this insanity.” Jason sat down, gesturing for him to continue. “Well, go on. What kind of demigod dream was it this time? Did you see the Egyptians? Were they too menacing for you?”

“I spoke with the person bringing us together.”

Any talking that was going on stopped. “You what?” Annabeth gawked at him.

“What did he say?” Jason asked, jaw dropped.

“They said that I was chosen for a different path.”

“Did they say you had a choice?” Percy asked, a tone of hostility visible in his voice. It reminded Annabeth of their experiences in Tartarus, and how scary he had been when facing threats. She rested her hand on his arms to calm him down.

“Well, he did, but...”

“But what?” Jason asked, standing up. “If he gave you a choice, then you don't have to do it. We can still follow through with our plan.”

“What if I want to do it?” Leo shot back, also rising out of his chair. “What if I want to follow that path?”

“Why in Hades would you want to?” Percy asked. “For once, I'm going to agree with Jason.”

“Second time. We're getting the Egyptians.”

“You still don't want to, so technically we're only agreeing once.”

“Boys, knock it off.” Piper interjected, making them quiet down. She turned to Leo. “So what's so important about this path? What are you supposed to do?”

“He didn't tell me.” Leo lied, shrugging. “At least, I think they were a he.”

“How do you not know something like that?” Jason asked, confused.

“I didn't see them, they were in the shadows. They just sounded like a guy.” Leo shook his head. “Anyways, they said that if I chose to do it, they'd tell me.”

“Leo, don't try and lie.” Nico said, making everyone but Harry jump again.

“You're lying to us?!” Now it was Percy who was trying not to lose his cool. “Leo, we're a team. Team members don't lie to one another-”

“-unless they're working for the other side.” Annabeth finished. “Like Selina back when Percy and I were fighting Kronos. She was an informant for Luke.”

“We don't need a background story, Annabeth.” Jason said, rolling his eyes. “But you have a point. They don't lie unless they're hiding something.”

“Look, I said it's personal!” he said, slamming his hands on the table. “And if you have a problem with that, then you're going to have to deal with it!”

Jason's eyes narrowed. “Watch your tone, Leo.”

“Then don't make me!” he threw his hands up in exasperation. “Honestly, you think I'd just bail on you guys if it wasn't important? What do you take me for?”
