My whole world had stopped moving. My head spun. My eyes blurred. My heart pounded. My head killed. What was he doing?
What was he thinking?A wave of sadness and heartbreak had crashed upon me, hitting me physically as I almost toppled over onto the ground.
My mouth draped open, and tears filled my widened brown eyes.
"N-N-Natsu?" I sputtered out, unable to say anything else.
"Wh-What are--"
"Lucy!" He exclaimed, quickly backing away from girl. "I-I thought you weren't coming home until later!"
I held back a sob. "I-I was let out of work early... Wh-What's going on? Wh-Why is there another girl in our apartment?" He ran his hand through his hair, a look of guilt growing upon his features.
"Lucy, this is my co-worker, Lisanna. I invited her over so we could talk business, but..." He pinched the bridge of his nose. "Things... Happened..."
A tear dropped from my eye.
"Luce I'm so, so sorry... It was just a misunderstandin--" He took a step forward, but before he could come closer, I held my hand out and took a step back. I swallowed a sob, and said, "No... No no.. It's fine... I-I understand... I can't be worth much anyway... I understand I wasn't enough for you... I-I'm sorry..." I held up my left hand, admiring our engagement ring and sadly smiled.
"I was really... Looking forward to a future with you, Natsu..." I muttered, pulling the ring off. Natsu's eyes widened, and he opened his mouth to speak but no words escaped his chapped lips as I dropped the accessory onto the floor.
No words added, I slowly walked out of the apartment, grabbing a bottle of liquor along the way. "Lucy..." Natsu said, walking towards the door.
"Bye, Natsu..."
"Lucy, wait--" I had already slammed the door shut, running out of the apartment complex and to a place unknown.
Natsu cupped his face in his hands, tears dropping into his palms. Lisanna had placed a hand on his shoulder, but Natsu shook it off. "Get out." He demanded, making the blue-eyed girl flinch. "But Natsu--"
"I said get out, Lisanna!!" He shouted, glaring at the girl who scrambled out of the door, a look of terror covering her face.
He dropped down onto his knees, tears pooling from his eyes and dropping onto the wooden floor. "D-D..." He choked on his words as he pulled at his hair.
"Damn it!!!!"
---
"Room for one..." I murmured, handing the lady six dollars. She handed me a key. Room 36B, the key read. I thanked her and made my way to the room.
Uncontrollable sobs were fighting to break out, but I refused to allow them. My pace down the long empty hall quickened, and my patience was wearing thin.
So was my sanity.
I stumbled into the room, slamming the door shut behind me and slid down onto the floor. My emotions just seemed to flow right from my body, as I pounded my fist on the ground, screaming out to nothing.
Why? Why did he get with someone else?
Was I not good enough for him? Surely, I wasn't because he wouldn't of done that if I was. My heart ached.
It was crumbling to pieces, as if he had smashed my piggy jar of love into a million shards of sadness.
"Why... Why... Why..." I kept whispering as I drank down half the bottle of booze. My makeup had smeared and I must've looked like a dead bride that just came from the depths of hell.
I felt like it too.
My vision burring, I stood up from the ground and stumbled my way over to the bed. I picked up the phone and dialed a random number in, hiccuping countlessly.
The phone rang. "Hello?" A raspy voice called through the phone, making me giggle. "Heyyy~Gray. How'ya *hiccup* doin' on this fi~ne Thursday *hiccup* morning?"
There was a short pause on the other line, before they said, "Lucy? Is that you?" I burst out into a fit of drunk laughter. "Pff- na~ah! It's just me~! The Taco Bell lady, hahahaha!" Hearing them sigh on the other line, I quieted down and listened as closely as I could.
"Lucy, It's not Gray. It's me... Natsu. And.. Are you drunk?" Sudden tears filled my eyes at the name Natsu. "Y-You..." I sobbed into the phone.
"Y-You ass!! If I wasn't enough f-f-for you t-then why did you p-propose to m-me!?"
"I already told you, it was a misunderstandi--"
"Misunderstand my ass! You cheated on me and thats it! Whats even worse is you did it before our own wedding!!" I hiccuped and sniffled, wiping the never ending stream of tears off my cheeks.
"Lucy.. Come back.. I miss you so much... I know what I did was wrong and pathetic, but please... Give me a second chance..."
There was a long silence between him and I. His question had sobered me up quite quickly, leaving me to sit there for what felt like forever to stare blankly at the floor deep in thought. "Lucy?"
The walls in the room had begun to close in on me, making it harder for me to breathe. I looked around the room in panic, only to find everything molding around me. I began to shake in terror, and brought my knees to my chest and rocked back and forth.
"Lucy! Lucy answer me! Say something!"
I needed to get out of here.
I need to leave.
I need to run.
I dropped the phone on the ground, and ran outside the room and down the halls, still sensing this eery feeling that the walls were still closing in.
My breathing slowed, and I only ran down the streets with loud, exhausting pants.
I'm not sure where my legs are taking me, but I let them do the job for themselves.
Sooner or later, I found myself in front of a familiar door. R 5.
Natsu and I's apartment...
My hand begun to move on it's own, and loudly knocked on the door. Moments later, the door had bursted open. My legs buckled, and I could feel myself beginning to fall backwards, my eyes closing along the way. Before I could completely pass out, I heard my name being shouted before all was black at that very moment.
---
No matter where I am...
What I'm doing...
What's even going on...
I know for a fact, that these legs
are always going to keep bringing me
back to you.
