(Jacks POV)
It is now my turn to defend myself.
My lawyer stands up.
"Yes, yes Jack is mentally ill, which is why he does not deserve jail. Jack here is an A-average student and is involved in football. He has a bright future ahead of him. It is clear that he is just troubled after the girl he is crazy about left him in the dark." I look to Gabi who's face is getting red. "Jury, most of you I assume are married. Well what if your husband or wife was ripped away from you. That is how Jack felt when Gabrielle and Alex stated dating, not to mention behind his back. Now, I refuse to defend someone who obviously is in the wrong, but I also will not defend an unjust punishment." I smile, as I notice Gabi who is realizing our trick to keep me away from punishment. My lawyer opens his briefcase.
"Here are some statistics of rehabilitation facilities on dangerous people. Over 75% of people who commit or attempt murder are mentally ill. Almost half of that 75% end up going to rehab instead of jail. Of the people who went to jail, almost 90% of them have received criminal charges once again, if and after they get out. Those who went to rehab though, only 10% of the people who came out of rehab got as much as a traffic ticket. It is statistically proven that rehabilitation would be better for this boy. Boy. He is what, 15? His mind isn't developed yet and is highly influenceable. If we send him to get help, not only will he have his punishment, but he will leave a better person and understand more in life. So prosecutors," he turns to us, the Braverman's and Mrs. Stanley, "don't waste your breath trying to prove his guilt. He is guilty. Judge Robinson and jury members, I beg of you people to find it in your hearts and mind to give this boy the help he needs, and send him to rehabilitation. I rest my case." Mr. Ruma sits and nods at me. A smile forms on my face.
The judge stands up."Well ladies and gentleman, we have reached a conclusion to day one. We will continue with the verdict in three days. For now, case dismissed." She taps her gavel on the desk. Everyone gets up and goes home. Before we leave, Alex walks over to us.
"Hey guys. I just wanted to say thank you for defending me. This has been crazy but I think we should win this one. He will go to jail. And Gabi, I'm really proud of you for saying what needed to be said. You're amazing." Alex states and embraces me. That guilt fills my body back up again. I will let this cool over before I break up with him but for now, I must act like I love him, for his sake. I peek over Alex's shoulder, still in his embrace, and I see Jack glaring fiercely at us. I instantly break apart and say goodbye for now.
We finally head home and rest.

(Alex's POV)
When I get home after the trial, I take a hot shower for what seems like hours.
After, I rest in my bed and watch some TV as the sun sets. Gabi, who I've been texting since the end of the trial, finally texts me goodnight. Not gonna lie, I want to marry her someday. She is so amazing. Like I don't know what I would do without her. Anyways, I could use some sleep.
My eyes rest for about an hour until my slumber is interrupted.
"Alex can you take the trash out?" My mom pokes in my room and asks.
I grunt and get up."Fine." I say. I get up, still in just sweatpants and walk the trash outside.
I throw the bag in the large bin and turn around.
Suddenly, I feel something pressed against my bare chest. A gun.
"Hey buddie." Jack says with a devilish smile on his face."Woah Jack-" I'm silenced.
"No, don't talk. You took everything from me. Gabrielle was my soulmate. And you took her from me. Then you turned my family against me. My mom is terrified of me. She tried to disown me!" Jack yells in my face. Tears begin to streak his face. He looks away for a moment and I take advantage of it. I quickly send my hardest blow to his face and he staggers back. I make a beeline for my house, when a loud boom sounds. My body goes numb and I fall to the ground, my vision going in and out. I barely lift my head up to see a bullet lodged in my chest. Knowing I only have moments to live, only one thing flashes in my mind: Gabrielle. I try to memorize her face but it fades out of my mind and is replaced with a white light. The last thing I see is Jack holding the reloaded handgun in his mouth, tears streaming down his face, and pulling the trigger.
