Chapter 14

*Jack's POV*

I watched my daughter's expression as the elf told us what we were looking at. A tear escaped her eye, but she quickly wiped it away so no one could see. She nodded, accepting it. I was surprised at how acceptable to change she was.

"I won't let him take you." I promised again. Brandon looked at me and, as always, I felt sad. Why couldn't he just see that there was nothing I could do? He nodded me outside.

"Pitch isn't going to relent. He's doing this because he knows it gets to you." His tone was cold and unforgiving.

"So what am I supposed to do? Not care?"

"I don't know. I'm trying to work something out with him. Don't let her blame me for anything I end up doing, alright? If I'm cruel in any way to Abby, it's only to keep her here."

"Brandon, please." I said as he started to walk off, "there's nothing I can do. I may lose one child, I don't want to lose you too."

"You already have."

*Abigail's POV*

Tooth smiled at me. "Is the spirited girl I first knew still in there?"

"Duh." I smiled and rolled my eyes. "You just haven't seen her because people keep treating me like I'm two and I don't get a word in edgewise."

"Come on then! You'll come with me to collect teeth!"

I stood up, checked my flying, and followed her out the door, shouting back to Dad where I was going. We saw kids with flashlights who had tried to stay awake, kids with soft smiles on their faces from dreams, and a few had fearful expressions, which I settled quickly by kissing the top of their heads. The yellow pattern seemed to come straight from my skin. Whenever I touched someone with good intention, it spread. They always ended up happy.

"He's my favorite." She said, pulling a blanket over a little boy.

"He looks like Mom." I said with a frown.

"Wedlock, just before Jack met her. Jamie raised his kids to believe in us and they were for the most part amazing in attitude and personality, but she just gave herself away. He suffered from his mother missing and did the same. So this is her grandchild."

"I'm an aunt?" I screeched.

"Sh, sh," she warned, but it was too late. He rubbed his eyes and sat up.

"Daddy?" His eyes widened when he saw Tooth. "Tooth Fairy? I knew it!" His looks and tone portrayed that he was four.

"Can he see me?"

Tooth shrugged. "He's family. Maybe."

Then his flashlight moved around the room and stopped on us. "You're here!" My heart dropped as he asked her questions and ignored me. I was just making my way back to the window to leave when I felt the light directed at me. "Who're you?" He asked.

My heart leaped in my chest. "I'm Abigail."

"Why are you here?"

"You know your grandma, Marisa?" He shook his head.

"Dad doesn't talk about Mommy or his parents."

I nodded my understanding. "Well she's my mom, which makes me your aunt."

His eyes lit up. "Aunt Abby! Who's your Dad?"

"Jack Frost."

The smile made way for a look of shock. "No way."
