Chapter 23

*Abigail's POV*

After coming to terms with what happened and remembering most of it (including how Brandon was nearly crying while he hit me), I decided to go see him. And find Dad, who hadn't come back yet. Plus, I'd broken my promise to Dylan.

There was one point during the day when all the Guardians were gone, Tooth and Sandy working, North overseeing the rebuilding of the Workshop, and Bunny...I wasn't sure what he was doing. Anyway, I gingerly stood on my uninjured leg and lifted myself off the ground, muttering thanks that I could fly.

Zooming out of the castle, I flew down to Dylan's house and rang the doorbell. "Aunt Abby?" Dylan asked breathily. "What happened to you?"

"I'll tell you later. I'm so sorry I missed your birthday, Buddy."

He shook his head and pulled me inside before sitting me down on his couch. "Dad! She's here! I told you she would be!"

I had pulled my neck brace off before, but now I was really wishing I hadn't. Oh well. Maybe it would be for the best?

A boy maybe three years older than me walked in and his eyes widened. "Who are you? What happened? Are you okay?" He spouted off questions.

"I'm Abigail, Jack Frost's daughter. And that is a long story that I think can wait." My eyes flickered to the little boy sitting beside me and he nodded.

"Okay. I'm Charlie. But, uh, you say you're Jack Frost's daughter?"

"Yep. My mother Marisa married him."

His face darkened when I mentioned Mom. "My mom's name was Marisa too. Did she leave you like my mom did?" He asked quietly while sitting beside me, so Dylan couldn't hear.

"No." His face held relief until I spoke up again. "Pitch Black, the boogeyman, killed her. It ripped my family apart. And we have the same mom, Charlie. Surprise!"

Suddenly I saw relief and joy on his face. "You're my half-sister?"

"Yes. And Dylan's aunt."

"So...did you happen to break out of a mental institution recently?"

"No, why?" I frowned.

"Because you're trying to tell me that Jack Frost is your father and some boogeyman killed Mom."

I laughed. "Jack Frost is real. I inherited a portion of his powers too."

"Okay, I'll humor you. Like what?"

"I can fly part of the time and I can withstand really cold temperatures. Oh, and I'm like Cupid Jr. Cool, right?" I said, my eyes sparkling.

"Can you show me?" He said with an eyebrow raised.

"Sure!" I sat back, letting him see Dylan, and put my hand on his shoulder. The same yellow pattern as usual spread and vanished. Just like always, it looked like he was happy.

"I got you a present, Aunt Abby! I'll go get it!" He dashed from the room even as he said the last words.

Charlie's eyes widened. "And I would show you how I can fly, but since I'm part-human it doesn't work like it should."

I pulled out the snow globe, which had stayed in one piece through my attack. "And this, this is the most magical thing on me. Interested in meeting the rest of your family?"

"Like who?"

"Step-father and half-brother, give or take a few Guardians."

Seeing a spark in his eye, I smiled and waited for Dylan. He came running back in with a box wrapped in colorful paper and handed it to me. "Thanks, Dylan."
