Chapter 15

*Jack's POV*

When Brandon got back, he didn't talk to us. I tried to ask what happened, but he just stormed into the room he was staying in and slammed the door.

"Brandon, what happened?" Tooth asked, knocking on the door.

"I don't even know."

I sighed. Was I going to lose my other child now? I sank to the ground and put my head in my hands. I couldn't lose them both. They were all I had left. I loathed Pitch. I hated him with every fiber of my being.

"I think she's safe." He told us.

I looked up, hope filling me. "Sandy, can you wake her up? I want to see if he's right."

He shook his head and left. Coming back a moment later with Abigail's hand in his, he kept on past me down the hall to the infirmary.

I laid her down, seeing the gold in her eyes still, and waited impatiently. Grasping my staff, I watched the screen as the elf took an X-ray of her stomach.

"It is slowing down." He said in amazement.

I smiled, squeezed my daughter's hand, and ran up the hall to Brandon. "Go away."

"Why? What do you think you did? The elf-doctor says the sand is slowing down again."

"Just leave me alone, Jack." He sounded really stressed out.

"Sandy's just about to wake her up. Don't you want to come and tell her the good news?" I asked, unable to keep the hopeful sound out of my voice.

"No. Leave."

I frowned, but flew back down the hall to Abigail. I wanted to be there to see what Sandy would do.

*Abigail's POV*

When I woke up, I was laying on a bed in the infirmary. My ankle throbbed and I remembered what had happened. "What's going on?" Everyone was in here now.

"Brandon struck a deal with Pitch. The sand is going away. Slowly, but still." Dad informed me. "You've been out for only a few hours."

I nodded. "I was standing somewhere, wasn't I? My ankle really hurts."

The doctor set to work on that, wrapping it up nice and tight. "Do you want crutches?" He asked in his squeaky voice.

"No thanks."

"Then you're all set."

I got up and winced when I stood, but found that I could fly and did so to get to Brandon's room. "Brandon? Can I come in?"

"Go away, Abigail."

"I wanted to thank you for whatever deal you made with Pitch. It couldn't have been that bad."

"I said leave me alone. I don't want to see you." His harsh words would've fooled me if I hadn't heard a heartbroken tone behind them. Something went wrong.

"Brandy--"

"GO!" I flinched but left. I was going to make him tell me what was going on. And by "him" I didn't mean Brandon.
