Chapter 22

*Abigail's POV*

My eyelids fluttered. Gasping for breath, I wondered what the noise I was hearing was. I was hearing a beeping sound.

Finally wrenching my eyes open, I stared at the room around me. "Abigail," I heard to my left. The room was all gold, where was I? My room wasn't gold. "Abigail, can you hear me?"

I nodded, finding that even that movement caused immense and excruciating pain to shoot up my neck. "Dad?" His blue sweatshirt was what gave him away. Since my eyesight was extremely foggy, I couldn't see anything but colors.

"Yeah. How do you feel?"

"Hurt. What happened?" My voice was cracking, like I hadn't spoken in days.

"We were out delivering toys for Christmas. You were riding the reindeer Vixen, remember?"

"Mhm." I closed my eyes and tried to remember. "Brandon...he walked up to me. He--he said he was sorry about something. That's the last thing I remember."

I heard Dad sigh and opened my eyes again. Clearer and clearer my eyesight became until I could actually see him and where I was. "Dream Castle." I saw that the gold was sand.

"Yep. I brought you here after Brandon..." He sighed and shook his head. "I'm sorry, Abigail."

"What?"

He shook his head again. "I'll be right back."

After he walked out and left his staff behind, I turned my head toward the door. My stiff, sore neck made me gasp in pain when it rolled and I squeezed my eyes shut. Could I even feel my hands? I tried to wiggle my fingers and found that my hands were crossed across my stomach, one in a cast.

What happened to me? I hurt all over, I could hardly move...whoever hurt me, hurt me bad.

Dad walked in a few minutes later, after I'd discovered what was covered in a cast and what wasn't. My hair was matted down with a bandage on my head, I had a bandage over my ribs around my midsection, one foot and calf was in a cast, I was wearing a neck brace, and my arm was broken, along with one finger on my other hand.

The other Guardians followed him and I forced my mouth to stretch to a smile. That didn't hurt at least. "Morning, Abigail." Bunny said, hopping up to my bedside. "How ya feelin'?"

"Fantastic. I'm on cloud nine."

He chuckled. "Ya look like it."

"Really? What happened to my face?"

Sandy made a picture and I groaned. "I really do look awful." It appeared that I had a split lip, black eye, and bruise on my cheek. "How long has it been since Christmas? I sound like I was out for days."

"Happy New Year!" North shouted, making me jump and wince.

After the pain passed, I smiled. "It's New Year's Day? Well good, that means I've been awake and talking to you guys on both major holidays. Only for about two hours on Christmas, but still."

I started moving my right hand to my side. It was sore, but moveable. All of them watched me. Pressing my palm to the bed to sit up, I saw out of the corner of my eye Dad and Bunny's worried expressions. "Here," Tooth said, flying over to me. "Let me help."

With a major amount of help from her, I finally got to a sitting position. "Much better." I said with a relieved sigh.

"Really though, Abigail, how do you feel?" She asked. I knew it. The maternal tone in her voice suggested to me what I'd already had suspicions about. I had four fathers and one mother. Speaking of family, where was Brandon?
