"Sodapop sweetheart will you come here for a second?" My mom calls from the kitchen, I was sitting across from her a note pad sitting on the counter top in front of me and a pen in hand ready to write anything she told me to.

Darry was also sat beside me his chin resting on his hands and the other extended across the kitchen counter top. Soda soon bounded down the stairs a smirk on his face and a tooth pick between his teeth. He pulled up a chair beside mine.
"What's up mom?" He asks draping an arm across my shoulders lazily.
"Well, Thanksgiving is in a week and we were talking about dinner, I think you should have the boys over for dinner." She smiles her usual smile that was always on her face.
Soda nods agreeing. "Agreed!" He chuckles. Darry nods his head as well.
"As long as Johnny and Dal can come, I don't think they have anywhere else to go on holidays." I announce tapping the end of my ball point pen on the yellow pad of paper while adverting my eyes to the tan counter tops.
"I don't think Dal's really had a thanksgiving or cared about one." Soda agrees.
"He probably just forgets, or ignores it." Darry chimes on moving his hand briefly to talk.

"Darry? What's for dinner?" I ask searching through the fridge after I laid my backpack on the table.
"I don't know Pony." Darry says obviously paying attention to the game on TV. I nod rolling my eyes at him as I shut the fridge door settling for an apple. I brush it clean on my purple shirt that used to be a sweatshirt with its sleeves cut off. I go to take a bite but my eyes get distracted by the calendar. Thursday had a word written on it. I bend down taking a closer look at it almost unable to read Sodas sloppy handwriting.
'THANKSGIVING!' It read in a black marker with a terrible drawn turkey beside it. I stand back up straight.
"Hey Darry?"
"Yeah Pony?" Darry sigh heavily engrossed in the small box in front of him.
"What's are we doing for Thanksgiving?" I ask taking a big bite of my apple.
"What do you mean? It's like two weeks away, I don't yet." Darry shrugs.
"No, it's only two days away." I announce. Darry sits up in his chair as did Soda on the couch.
"Is that why I have Thursday off work?" Soda asks.
"Yeah," I chuckle, sometime Soda can be forgetful and not very smart.
"I don't know, mom always handled it." Darry says suddenly finding an interest in the tv remote and its buttons.
We all go silent.
"Let's just have Johnny over and make burgers or something." I shrug.
"Steve can come too, and maybe Dal, Steve's parents are outta town again and Dal never does anything, he'll just get in trouble like last year." Soda adds.
"Sounds good. If Two's not doing anything go ahead and ask him," Darry shrugs talking quietly. We nod in agreement not wanting to talk about it anymore.

Sodas laugh fills the messy kitchen as turkey grease is slid across my nose. I laugh loudly quickly retorting it with some stuffing.
"Boys!" My mom teases also laughing from the opening of the oven. "You're gonna make a mess of the kitchen!"
Soda looks to me then Darry who shrugs. We all try keeping a straight face but end up in a fit of laughter when Soda places the stuffing from his nose on Darry's cheek.
My dad comes in the door his hands on his hips.
"I'm not cleaning this up." He states shaking his head as he grabbed a beer from the fridge it making a satisfying popping sound as the top popped off onto the counter.
"I'm not either." My mom chuckles. "It's up to you three boys." She shakes her but a smile is playing on her lips.
"Awe come on!" I groan playfully.
***

"I hate this," I groan putting another patty on the plate that Soda was slowly putting on the stove.
"It's not so bad kid, cheer up." Soda nudged my shoulder as Darry soon enters the house with his arms full of bags.
"This isn't thanksgiving," I mumble.
"What do you want then Pony? I'm trying my best here." Darry shouts clearly hearing me.
"Darry calm down." Soda warns.
"I want mom and dad back so bad." I say throwing a hamburger patty against the counter in frustration where my hands were resting.
The room goes silent.
"I'm sorry Pony, I don't mean to yell, I just," Darry takes a heavy sigh. "I miss them too." He whispers. Soda nods agreeing flipping another patty on the stove top.
"We all do." Soda agrees wrapping an arm around my shoulder for comfort,
Soda always knew house to comfort me.
"If I could I'd bring them back and we would be dancing in the kitchen making turkey and stuffing right now Pony, I promise I would." Darry says resting his hands on his hips.
