Dear Emily,
I guess it's a stupid habit to pick up. A teenage girl shouldn't be outside alone at 4 in the morning. I know that. I could get lost. I could get kidnapped. I could get hit by a car for God's sake. But you know what? Maybe that's what I'm hoping will happen. Maybe, in the back of my mind, I'm hoping I can get killed too. It can be an accident, so it won't be seen as selfish. It can be an accident, because I'm not brave enough to take myself out. But maybe, just maybe, it won't be an accident at all.
