Chapter 26/Letters

That night Jean wrote in his journal.

4:50 - from Coven to Landing via St Pauls on orders of B.M. She seduces Badland warrior who was brave enough to enter lower coven. They made love, puppy style on front bench. He appeared to have no marks or feeding behavior after his visit. B.M has not been converted yet? After love they spoke indistinctly including words Princesses and Lottery. 5:10 arrive. B.M leaves with a man to accompany to his tavern. Cleaned front bench from fish smell. 6:40 B.M returns from Tavern returned to main coven tower, leaving second stain on bench. She carried his hat presumably to force/excuse his return at a later day. B.M appears happy sung west end fishing song to self on way back. 7:00 24+ crows circling tower. 7:15 took Doctor to landing, he is presumably looking for more victims for his experiments. ...

The next morning Mary sat on my bed while I listened. Mary had organized the scribe from the city which Brachet would employ. The scribe was also capable of memorizing the text he wrote and was able to faithfully reproduce it again. "If he wants to keep it secret its Brachet's fault for not learning to write himself" Mary had said then started to read the letter aloud.

"She has come under the hypnotic influence of the coven Governess who makes her do all kinds of unwomanly acts, bla, bla bla, and including reading. How ever there is much that gives me hope as she also showed many aspects which are common with young women of her age. In her naivety, she suggested that teaching poor children to learning words not fetching water or helping collect family food would be one of her priorities when she returned. This kind of flight of fancy suggests to me that they have failed to blacken her soul completely and she may be rescued."

We both giggled at that.

"Oh big ending. What is clear is that your daughter needs to be taken in by some strong follow who would banish all of the poison the Duke has tried to insinuate - he spelled insinuate wrong - in her before being returned to court. Sly devil I guess he figures he might be just the man to rid you of your poison and with a few months under his tutelage he might just get to fuck you or better."

"So good news then," I said impressed at the incredible power of my own flirtatiousness.

"Yes well handled." said Mary folding the copy of Brachet's letter away.

The stress of the interview over I was able to get back to more important things. "When can I ask farther when I can marry the Sadismann?"

Mary's shoulders slumped "I don't think we have reached that time. Yet, Duke Sadismann must ask you first and he's not going to do that until you worship to the blood good. High priestess and frankly the coven won't permit out-marriage."

"Well, Sadismann will have to do something about it. I'm not praying to the blood god." I said.

Mary walked over to straighten the furniture. "I have a feeling he feels the same way, but at the end, he must carry to coven with him. I will check, but If you say your willing to read from the book of Arymis then the high priestess might approve of you".

I think Mary was worrying about the wrong thing "But what about my father's  approval?"

"We must make him feel you are being well treated, safe and happy here. He must think that being the bride of the Duke would give him much influence and power. I'll see what I can do with Brachet. I'm sure another inspection or two from him and he will come around to your way of thinking."
