Winters Night: The Eye Of The Blizzard

Chapter 8: Where are we now?

I sit low, out of their sight. The snow was extremely heavy. I say a prayer over Macy, and begin walking towards them. Angel finally noticed me. I walk past her. "Daddy, where have you...what is that you're carrying?" Angel asks. I completely ignored her and walked to the back of the van, where lucy, Scarlett, and Macy were sitting. Lucy was propped up against a wall, still out cold.

Mary looks up at me. She jumped up and began frantically asking "Winter! Please, do you know where my sister is!?! Where is macy!?!" She asked with tears beginning to fill her eyes. She then looks down into my arms. She sees Macy's face. Scarlett gasps and puts her hand over her mouth. Mary then looks back up at me. "Im sorry." I say in a cold voice. She takes her from my arms.

She sits down, and cradles macy in her arms. "Did she go fast?" She asks, crying. I stay quiet. "Nooo! Why did you have to take her?!? Why!?!" She asked while screaming. This is just another example of survival of the fittest. Macy had no buisness being in a horrible world like this. No one could deny her will to live though. A brave little girl, in a hellish world. Madie comes walking in from outside and sees whats happened. He stays quiet.

Mary finally stops crying, or at least trys too. "She needs to be layed down to rest." Mary said, cleaning tears from her cheek. I look around. "Here?" I ask. "Yes." She said. "No." I say. "She should be buried where she will be remembered. Not on the side of the road." I say. "There down here!" Someone yelled. "The people that shot us off the road. The people that killed mary." I say with anger.

I un-sheath my machete and un-holster my pistol. There now close enough to where I can hear their feet crunching in the snow. I shut the back doors quietly and slowly. I hear their voices. Their right outside the doors of the van. "This is for macy." I say. I charge out the back doors and begin slashing. All they had were bats and knifes. There were 7 of them. "IM GONNA KILL YOU ALL!!!" I yell in absolute rage.

I slash first at a guy in a mask with a bat. My blade goes right through his chest, killing him. I then take my pistol and shoot 4 more men in the head. The last 3 pull out their rifles and open fire. Everything goes into slow motion. I charge towards the bullets, blocking and dodging them with my blade. "AAAAAAAH!!!" I cry a war cry as I get closer. "This kids psychotic!" One man said. I finally make it too them and slash, hack, and stab my way through them.

They all lay on the ground, dead. I breathe heavily as I snap out of my rage. I turned and saw Scarlett and Madie. Their eyes were wide open. The look of suprise and disbelief painted their faces. "You got some fire in you kid." Scarlett said. Lucy rises up from the van, holding a hand over her right eye. She immediately looks at me and covers her mouth with her hands. "Winter, what happened?" She asked.

I noticed I was covered in blood. "He just took on a 7 man crew, and won." Scarlett said. Lucy looks over at Scarlett and Madie in shock. "Sc...Scarlett?" Lucy asks, beginning to tear up. "In the flesh sis." Scarlett said hugging Lucy. "Oh my god. I thought you were dead." Lucy said, burying her face into Scarletts shoulder. They hugged and cried together. I stand and gain my awareness back because I was so worked up.

I had a pounding headache. "Lucy, are you ok?" I ask. They break the hug and Lucy looks at me. "Yeah, I feel ok." She said, wiping tears from her eyes. "Scarlett. We need to figure out what were going to do with macy." I say. "We could take her too a grave sight. Only thing I got. Bless her soul." She said. "Wait, who's macy?" Lucy asked. "Mary's little sister." I say. "Who's mary?" She asked. "A friend we met in the hospital. She gave us some meds so you'd be ok." I say.

"What happened to her sister?" Lucy asked stepping closer. "I couldn't save her." I say, bowing my head. "She died because of me." I continue. "It wasn't your fault winter. Theres nothing anyone could have done to stop it." Scarlett argues. "I could've been faster." I say. Mary comes walking outside. "Winter." She said. I walk over too her. "Yes mary?" I ask, bowing my head, trying not too cry. "Macy made this for you. She was gonna give it too you in the van." She said, handing me a necklace.

I hold the necklace up. The necklace had a crystal carved into the shape of a snow flake. It was a blue glowing snow flake. I put it around my neck. "Thank you." I say. We all stand for a minute in total silence. "A church." I say. "Huh?" Everyone goes. "We lay macy to rest in a church. If its ok with you, mary." I say "Sounds like a peaceful place." Lucy said. "That's sounds like an amazing place." Mary said. "Lets go then. I heard blackouts screaming a few minutes ago." Scarlett said.

We all gather what we can from the van. We then climb the hill, hop over the gaurd rail, and begin walking down the interstate. We keep walking until we find a cut off road that leads too a church. We begin walking down the forest endeavored road until we reach the church. It was an ivy covered, wooden church house. We walk in and walk down the isle too the preacher podium.

Conveniently, there was a casket in the corner of the room. Thankfully, it was empty. We push it up where the preacher podium was and fully opened it. We lay flowers we found around the church in it. We then lay macy down in it to rest. We all get down on our knees and begin to pray. I pray she will have a happy life in heaven. We all say amen and rise up. I lay my jacket over her as a blanket. Mary puts Macy's hands over her heart.

Me and Madie then close her casket. We all then walk out of the church, leaving macy to rest. I close and lock the doors using a shiv. I then carve Macy's name, age, birth and death date in the wooden door with a shiv. "Well, now what?" Scarlett asks while she wipes tears from her eyes. I look around, trying to figure out my surroundings. One question leaned in my mind. "Where are we now?"
