This story will be a collection of journal entries written by the characters, Roper and Beverly. I won't be telling the story, the characters will.
I will address this now: the "couple" in this story is an interracial pairing. Beverly is Black and Roper is White. I find it important love story to still tell. I hope you can enjoy this story just the same.
This story is of course, during the seventies, following the civil rights movement and there will be difficult subject matter along with race and also with substance abuse (as it says, Beverly is an addict).
Disclaimer: I am not trying to romanticize mental health/addiction. I've seen those close to me go through mental health issues (including myself) and substance abuse (which I personally have never experienced). Sometimes it ugly. Sometimes it doesn't make sense. It is loosely based off experiences I've witnessed. But I don't want to glorify mental health issues or addiction. It's not pretty.
But people who do have demons, do deserve extraordinary love.
Anyway, this is a new way of writing for me..
This story won't be too long. It will over a course of a year and journal entries won't be every, single day from both characters. I may skip some months (for reasons that will be revealed later) and you might get two chapters from Beverly and it doesn't alternate.
