Ethan's POV

It's Monday. Brie didn't heal the way I did, so it's safe to say that she's still human.

As Grayson said, she did ask for some space. It's been two days. I can't take it anymore, but I need to respect her decision.

I walked into class and saw that Mia was already here. I scrolled through my phone and found pictures I forgot I took with her. I never sent them to her, so maybe I can to make it up to her. The bell rang and I heard her phone vibrate. She sat up straight and looked at the pictures.

"I need to breathe." she told the teacher and walked out. I followed behind her.

"Mia."

"Did you do this on purpose? Was this to hurt me? Is this your way of getting back at me for some reason?" she began tearing up.

"Mia, I–"

"I need time." she slid down the lockers.

I sat down next to her, "I didn't mean for it to come out that way."

"Please just go."

Mia's POV

I need time to take this all in. And being around him isn't going to help. It'll just make things more complicated than it already is.

I feel so lied to. I don't know if I will ever be able to trust him again. I don't know if there's even a friendship, let alone a relationship, between us anymore.

"You okay?" Grayson mouthed.

I nodded.

I decided I'd go pay Brie a visit, since I haven't gone in to see her for a few days.

"She's in the shower right now." her dad said.

A few moments later, we heard a scream coming from her room.

"BRIE? BRIANNA? BRIE OPEN THE DOOR." I banged on the door. "BRIE."

A nurse came over and opened the door. The window was opened and she was gone.

Brie...

fast forward to after school the next day

They still have yet to find Brie and I'm worried. It's cold as balls out here and she could be dead for all we know. But I'm holding out hope that she's out there, well and alive.

"Dad. I'm going shooting." I yelled.

"Be home before dark." he replied.

I walked out to the woods by my house. It was a good 2 miles from my house. A little exercise won't hurt. Shooting arrows helps take things off my mind. After these past few days, I needed this.

I heard the leaves crunching. "Is someone out here?" I rose my bow, "hello?"

The noise got closer so I shot in its direction and heard someone groan. "Oh my god, Ethan. I'm so sorry."

Ethan's POV

I was going on a jog along the trail and I saw Mia.

"Is someone out there? Hello?" Then she shot me and I fell back. I grunted. "Oh my god, Ethan. I'm so sorry."

"I probably deserved that. You don't have to apologize."

This is awkward.

"Are you sure you're okay?"

"Won't take long to heal. It's okay." I looked at her. "How've you been?"

"Good. Just a little stressed out. Still worried over Brie." she sighed.

"I'm sorry I didn't tell you about this sooner. We had just met and–"

"It's okay."

"But are we?" I asked sheepishly.

"We still have to finish our English project assignment thing. I'm almost done with my half. I'll send it to you later yeah?" she helped me up.

"Yeah, okay." she started walking away, "hey, Mia."

"Yeah?"

"We're gonna have to talk about this eventually."

"I'll see you later." she said quietly and walked away with her bow. A few moments later, I couldn't breathe. I struggled breathing a little.

"M– wait. He–" I blacked out.

Mia's POV

I wanted to talk to him now. I miss him.

"Eth–" I turned around, "oh my god Ethan."

I ran over to him. "Ethan." I put his head on my lap. "Ethan?" I tried to see if he was still breathing. He was. I tried to get him up and have him start walking but he seemed a little weak so it was like carrying a bunch of dead weight on my shoulders.

I laid him down on a tree further away from the area we were just in.

"I just wanted to say I forgive you. That it's okay. I want us to be okay again. Being the couple that we are. Our relationship's rushed, but I think we can make it work. I believe we can make it work. There's always hope." I brushed some hair out of his face. "Please be okay."

He opened his eyes and took in a heap of air.

"I can't breathe." he said slowly.

"Okay, let's get you up and out of here." I helped him stand up. I swung my quiver over my shoulder. We walked as fast as we could out of the woods.

He stopped a few steps later. "Are you better?"

"A little."

"I'm gonna go se–"

"You're not going alone."

"But you can't come with me either. You're still catching your breath."

"Mia. Please. Don't go by yourself. We don't know what else is out there. It could be dangerous. I don't want you to get hurt. I don't wanna see you get hurt or end up in the hospital like Brie."

"But what if me going actually helps saves you? Like–"

"Mia." he interrupted me and gave me a desperate look, "I'm begging you. Please don't go back."
