Chapter 11: Wolfsbane

Mia's POV

"I won't."

"Promise me."

"I promise."

"Okay, now can you drop me off at home?"

"Yeah of course." We got to my house and I grabbed the keys. "Just give me directions."

"I don't live that far. But considering I can't breathe too well right now, it's probably safer I get a ride."

"Better safe than sorry."

"Right here." I pulled into his driveway. "I'll see you tomorrow?"

"Definitely." I kissed him goodbye.

On the drive home, I was still curious. I made a promise I wasn't going to check it out, so I need to keep my word.

I saw my aunt's car parked in the driveway. I haven't seen her in the longest time.

"Aunt Nessa?" I walked into the house. No reply. Considering there was no response, I got a water bottle from the fridge and made my way towards the stairs. Then I saw my aunt. I was about to run and hug her, but I heard something sketchy.

"Are you going to tell her it was us?"

"She's dating this kid, Vanessa."

"Roni has the right to know."

"The right to know what?" I slowly walked in.

"Sit down sweetie." Aunt Nessa said.

"What's going on?"

"You know the night of your homecoming?"

"Yeah..." I think I know where this is going...

"Remember when you ran to the car with your boy. What's his name?"

"Ethan."

"Nous chassons ceux qui nous chassent." my dad interrupted.

"We hunt those... who hunt us? What does any of that have to do with Ethan...?"

Then it hit me.

"It was you two in the cars that night. You tried to kill Ethan. Why is it that everytime I think I'm finally happy, someone or something manages to ruin it? He's someone that I've come to care about. I'm going to my room."

"Mia." my father called, I kept walking. "Mia Veronica Vanderwaal."

"Roni."

"I don't want to talk to anyone. Leave me alone." 5 minutes passed and my aunt decided to come into my room.

"Roni?" she peeped her head in.

"Go away." I said. "That literally makes zero sense. Why did you do it?"

"We didn't want to do it. It's our family code."

"And the last time I checked, we're all capable of making our own decisions."

"That's breaking the code our family has been living through for the past who knows how long."

"You can live up to it. But I won't. Family code or not, we shouldn't be killing anyone innocent. We shouldn't be killing anyone in general." I sighed, "Anyway, I'm going to Ethan's to work on our English assignment."

"Or are you working on something else?"

I put the paper in front of her face, "English assignment." I walked out.
