Two days had passed and it is time for the privy council to submit names for their candidate for regency.

“Welcome everyone. Let’s get it going now. Do you have anyone in mind?” Mary asked direct to the point and Francis just smiled and felt proud that this woman commanding a group of high ranking men stumble at his gorgeous wife. “I have one.” Lord Matthews said. “I nominate Baron Peter Russo. He has proven his capabilities during Queen Mary Tudor’s reign and he is a strong Catholic.” “Alright. But seriously in a country divided by religion you use Catholicism as a part of the criteria. I told you once before. I don’t care about what you believe and worship. What I care about is that you care about England and will never cross me or my king.” Then General Aigle said. “Well in that case I would recommend someone who has the same principle as you. Someone who thinks that the mose important thing is respect. I recommend your cousin. Lady Elizabeth Tudor.” Mary and Francis smiled while everyone mummbled. “You can’t do that. She’s a woman.” Lord Philip said. Then Francis spoke. “Careful of your words Lord Philip. The ruler of England and Scotland is a woman. In fact she’s my wife. The regent of Scotland is Queen Mother Marie de Guise. Your former ruler is Queen Mary Tudor. Right now my mother Catherine de Medici is the one leading the council of France for the benefit of those who were affected by the famine. See the pattern? They’re all women. So please be careful. Because your ruler is my wife, a woman! And I believe and I know that you know that she’s been doing a great job.” Mary smiled and the privy has remained quiet. “Any more suggestions gentlemen?” Mary asked. They shook their head and Mary dismissed them.

Mary looked for Elizabeth. She found her in the garden. “Elizabeth?” “I’ve heard Mary. Are you serious. Are you really considering me as a regent?” “Yes.” “Why?” “Because I want you to have your dream. I want you to serve England without being forced to be married. To be respected for the things you will be doing. Just remeber. I’m still queen alright.” “Of course. Thank you.” “But. You have to do one little thing for this.” “Anything.” “Lay low for a while. I know you’ve been seeing one of my ladies. Lady Alyssa. One of my spies accidentally saw you. Don’t worry I made her sign a contract. Your secret is safe. But please be very careful. I want you to have this regency. So will you help me?” “Mary. I’m totally grateful and sorry.” “Sorry?” “Well your Lady.” “Do you love her? Does she love you?” “Yes. And Yes.” “Well don’t be sorry. It’s fine. Just don’t be caught, because I cannot save you if that happens. All I can do is keep your secret. And don’t worry. If you win this regency, I’ll let Alyssa stay here, I can always say that I need eyes and ears here.” “Thank you so much Mary. I promise. I will be loyal to you! Thank you.” Elizabeth hugged the very pregnant Mary then she went to find Alyssa to share the good news.
