"What did we just see," I said after a while of us just staring at each other in shock.
"T-they, they just disappeared. Do you think..." Emma said, her eyes saddened.
"They didn't die! They couldn't have. Alvin wouldn't do that anyway. What's the point of killing off the last known humans on Earth?" Rebecca exclaimed. That's a good point.
"That's true, but then where'd they go?" Dorothy chimed in.
"Well the pipe seemed to go through the wall into another room, maybe if we keep going this way, we'll find out," Rebecca said peering into the grate. I lead the way down the vent. There was a small grate on the bottom of the vent. I rushed over and peered through. This grate was different. Instead of leading into a room, it lead into a hallway right outside of a room. I looked around and saw that there was no way of seeing inside of the room that it lead to. I peered through again and saw that there was a bright, neon yellow sign that read 'Caution. Employees only beyond this point.' Just then I saw Alvin walk into view. He took pressed his finger against the entry button and it turned red, then opened.
"The pipe must lead here!" Emma whispered.
Dorothy put her hand to her lips "Shh, everyone be quiet! We can't let them know we're here. Once Alvin leaves that room we jump down and get in there and see what's going on in this joint,"
"What if there's people in there?"
"We'll just say we got lost!"
"Fine," A few moments later Alvin walked out of the room and back in the direction of the cafeteria. Rebecca twisted the screws and one by one we jumped down. Then Emma went to push her finger onto the button, just as Alvin did before, but before she could touch it Rebecca pushed her out of the way.
"What are you doing! Are you trying to get us caught?"
"What do you mean? I was going to open the door!"
"If it reads your finger and it's not one of the registered fingerprints it's going to set off an alarm!"
"So how do you suppose we're going to get in?"
Just then Rebecca reached into her pocket and pulled out a piece of paper. "Alvin's fingerprint, I took it when Alvin let you in. Thought I might need it someday."
"Smart girl," Dorothy chimed in. Rebecca pressed the paper onto the button and the doors opened so loudly it was almost if they were screaming 'Hey! There's some people here breaking into this room! Come and get 'em!" We walked inside the room and what I saw hit me with a wave of shock. There was a huge glass wall that blockaded the entrance of the room to a different section of the room. Behind that wall was the most wicked form of imprisonment anyone could ever go through, and from that point on, I knew one thing.
Alvin was insane.
