I remember the day Alskimous hit. I had Dorothy, Arthur and Emma, my closest friends, over at my house for a sleepover. We had went for a hike through the thick woods behind my house to my favorite spot that I had discovered when I was 5. It was an open field right next to a large lake.
"Hey mom, I am just going to take Dorothy, Arthur and Emma out to the Lake Field, ok?" I told my mom as we were leaving to go to the spot.
"Ok Angie have fun! Just be back for dinner sweetie. I love you," My mom replied.
"Ok we will! I love you too!" I said as I patted my Golden Retriever, Summer on her head. I didn't know it but this was the last time Iwould ever get to say that to her.
Aurthur had brought his soccer ball with us so that we could play soccer in the field. As we were walking, I took a moment to take in how beautiful the forest was. The birds were chirping, bunnies were hopping, and the sunlight glinted on the trees. Finally, the forest opened up to the clearing. My friends gasped when they saw it for the very first time. Emma was so excited that she just ran all around, her bright red hair shining on the Summer sun.
"Lets play some soccer!" Arthur ran over to Emma and started kicking the ball around, while Dorothy and I just stood there laughing hysterically. We both ran in and played a fun game of soccer.
"GOOOAAAALLLL!" Emma screamed as she scored the winning goal. She seemed very happy with her 'signature' smile lit up across her face, even though she made the Elite Travel Soccer Team for our town.
"Wow, I'm so hot! Can we swim in the lake for a little?" Dorothy asked.
"Yeah! That sounds like a great idea!" Aurthur said.
"Here, my brother Alex and I made a really cool rope we can swing from to jump into the water!" I said as I ran over to a really tall tree and climbed up the latter. When I reached the rope I screamed "Calabunga!" as I landed with a splash.
"Nice jump Angie!" Dorothy said
"Yay Angie!" Emma screamed
"When's my turn!" Aurthur said with a giggle.
After a long day of swimming and playing, I took out some jars so we can make firefly lanterns. As afternoon turned to evening we all ran around laughing as we tried to catch fireflies. After that we all cooled down on a long log on the Lake's shore.
"Wow, its beautiful out here," Emma remarked in awe
"Yeah, sometimes you never get to enjoy the beautiful world of nature around you. Thats why I come out here, to relax and enjoy what the Earth has to offer us. Someday this may not be here, you know?"
"Hey! Look a shooting star!" Dorothy and Aurthur said together.
"Woah! Thats a long one!" Emma said
"Hmm, that one is looking quite long for a shooting star, usually those are over in the blink of an eye. I wonder why it didnt pass yet." I wondered suspiciously
"Umm guys, why s it getting bigger?" Emma said scared
"Oh my goodness, guys I don't know about you, but something isn't right," Arthur said "Oh no. Guys. That's a meteor, and its headed for Earth."
"RUN!!" I screamed as we all dashed through the woods in any random direction. As we looked back we noticed the meteor getting bigger and bigger as it hurdled towards Earth.
"Guys, were not going to make it. Its going to hit about 300 miles away. That asteroid is big enough to wipe out the whole planet, like it did for the dinosaurs. I just want to let you know that you guys were the greatest friends anyone could ask for." Said Arthur
"Aww thanks buddy, we think the same about you," said Emma.
I turned back just to see the comet go under the tree-line. "GUYS GET DOWN!" I screamed for my life.
We all jumped forward and down to the ground we landed. I put my arms around my head to make sure my head was safer. I heard a huge ear-popping boom and blacked out.
****
"Angie! Angie!" I woke up to the sound of Emma crying. I slowly sat up.
"W-what happened?" I asked.
"I-it hit. The asteroid hit! Everything is ruined! L-look around! We're all gonna die!" Emma sniffled
Before speaking another word I looked around and noticed everything was gone. Everything was covered in soot. The sky was a dark blood red. There was nothing left.
"Where are Arthur and Dorothy?" I asked
"I don't know, they were somewhere over there," Emma stopped to point over to her left where she remembered them being. "I would have  looked but my ankle is stuck!"
"Oh my God, I didn't notice, sorry Emma" I said. I looked and saw that a huge burnt up tree had fallen on top of her foot. "I'm not sure I'll be able to get you out without help. I'll look for Dorothy and Arthur, I'll be quick."
I walked off in the direction that Emma had pointed to. As I walked I started to realize the reality of what had happened. I looked around and everything was gone. Just bare ground and the remains of what used to be trees. But I still couldn't wrap my head around it. I still thought everyone would be ok. I was wrong.
