On the other side of the glass wall, we saw dozens of people Yeah who Alvin had taken in as their 'finest members'. They we're all unconscious with a huge helmet of their head with a bunch of glowing, blinking buttons. They were being brainwashed.
"Come on guys, let's get out of here before they do that to us!" I said as fear and worry hit me.
"Yeah, but we have to make sure the hall is clear first," Rebecca said walking over to the window in the door. We checked the hall for people and then quietly cracked the door open.
"How do we get back up there?" Emma said looking up.
Dorothy looked up, then down the hall "Maybe we don't have to..."
"What do you mean? We're going to get caught out in the open! Alvin told us to stay in the bedroom,"
"There doesn't seem to be anybody around, there might be a way to just go for it,"
"That's really risky Dorothy, I don't know,"
"What's the worst that could happen?"
"Are you serious? Ugh whatever let's just go before anyone hears us," We followed down the hall after Dorothy. I hope she's right, and nobody sees us. Just then I heard footsteps and my heart jumped. I fear-stricken I stopped short just as one of Alvin's guards walked towards us.
"Where are you girls going?" he said. He towered over us and had an intimidating scowl.
"I...uhhh," I stuttered. Come on Angie don't mess this up! "My friends and I were just looking for the bathroom, do you happen to know where it is?" God Angie, you have got to work on those excuses.
The guard looked at us confused but then shrugged "It's down that hall on the left."
"Thanks," I said. I hadn't noticed how much I had sweated in those few seconds of time. After a moment of staring at us, the guard walked away. "That was close."
"Let's get out of here," Emma started running down the hallway.
*******
"Well look who it is, I hope you guys had a less terrifying rest than we did," I said once we got to the cafeteria.
"Tell me about it," Matt said rolling his eyes.
"What did you do?"
"Me and this guy went through Alvin's office and found out something very important,"
"Really? Like what?"
"I looked through his computer, amazing we have wifi here by the way, and I found some emails, from these people called the," Matt squinted as he tried to make out the words on his paper, which I hadn't noticed before "Waratukans? I think that's how you pronounce it."
"The who now?" Dorothy seemed so confused.
"Here, you read it. It's very important," Matt shoved the paper into my hand.
Dear Alvin of the Outlasters,
We hope all is well out there in the US. The rest of the Waratukans and I think we have found something, a 'cure' perhaps, that will help the withered Earth on your side of the world become healthy again just as it is here in Ireland. We are still trying to figure out why Alskimous onky affected your side of the world and not ours. We are calling it the Remedium. We will give you further information when you come to get it in a few weeks.
