About two hours later I looked back. Everywhere was water. I started to miss the land, but I knew that wouldn't help us at all. Why are we doing this anyway? What's the point? I mean, no matter what the Earth wouldn't be healed during our lifetime. Why is life so complicated?

"Everything alright?" Emma asked after a while.

"Umm, yeah I'm fine," I said hesitantly.

"You're lying. Something's up. Tell me,"

"It's just, sometimes I question why we're even doing this. Constantly I get waves of 'what's the point?' questions in my head. And sometimes I listen,"

"Oh Angie, you wanna know what the point is? Even if the Earth isn't the same in our lifetime, we're doing this so that it could be the way it was for the next generations,"

"You're right. There is a point! Thanks Emma!" I giggled. Emma always finds a way to cheer me up.

"If you need anything else, you know who to talk to," Emma got up and walked to the front of the speedbpat. I sat there and thought for a while. Who are really are these Waratukans anyways? What if they're leading us into a trap? Should we have just stayed with Alvin? Either way would be risky, but I'd rather risk my life helping others than risk my life doing nothing. I looked out into the sea ahead. I could see dolphin's jumping in the barely risen sun. The Earth really is beautiful. I leaned over and touched my fingers into the icy waves. It was actually pretty soothing. Until I noticed something in my refletion. Something behind us. Something big.

Apparently I wasn't the only one who noticed because a few seconds later Rebecca shouted "Look! A helicopter!" at first she must've thought it was a good sign but her expression became grim as she noticed that the helicopter was coming from the direction that we had come from. "Oh no. They really did catch up to us,"

"GO FASTER MATT," Emma screamed taking over the wheel.

"It would have helped if I had some more warning," Matt crossed his arms and stomped to the back.

"They're gaining on us!" Charles screamed from behind me. Something in me snapped. I realized that if they caught us this would be the end. I had to react and fast. I saw a big rock on the floor of the boat, probably Arthur trying to add to his collection, and picked it up. Alrighty. Four years of playing softball, this is the time to pay off! At that moment, I threw the rock. Time seemed to stop as it flew through the air. Closer and closer it got the more anxious I became. It seemed like forever until Clunk! I had hit my target. Time stood still as the helicopter hummed in the air. Then it dove down like a falcon hunting for prey. Then it slapped the water in front of us with a splash!

"Angie! YOU SAVED US!" Emma said as she speedily drove the speedboat away.

I looked back at the wreckage and saw Alvin's head pop up with a few others. As he desperately gasped for air he managed to yell "I... will....get you!"

Matt and Charles and Rebecca came over and gave me a high five while Dorothy and Arthur gave me a hug. We were still a long way from our destination, but at least we didn't have to worry about Alvin for a while.

Later that day Emma and Matt started teaching the others how to drive the speedboat and telling them what to do if we run into a probem. "And this button turn's on the air-conditioning....and this button stops the engine...and this button..." her voice trailed away as I walked over to Charles in the back of the boat.

"Do you ever wonder why we of all people survived Alskimous?" he said leaning against the boat. He seemed just to be staring out into nowhere, his blue-grey eyes landing on the open ocean waves.

"Actually no," I thought for a second before continuing "But maybe now I will."

Charles laughed and his expression turned grim. "Everyone I knew is dead. What if we really are the only ones left?"

I let that question sit for a second. What if we really are the only ones left?
