chapter 20 Jade's POV
As we were walking I kept thinking that Kat and Hunter might get together. What if there is no time for me once they get together? I mean, how can I deny that what he did to her in the bathroom when I wasn’t there was ‘hitting on her’?
I kept telling myself that Kat would always make time for me no matter what, but it wasn’t working. I kept telling myself that Hunter was a player and Kat would never go for him, but that didn’t work either. I didn’t hear or see anything, but the way the door wouldn’t budge, but then opened with Hunter standing stiff next to it and Kat in the middle of the room just standing there looked faked. I would bet that they were making out or something. There was only one way to find out.
In the middle of the tunnel I stopped Kat and Hunter and told the rest to go on, that we would catch up to them in a second.
“So why did you stop us?”
“I wanted to ask you a question”
“Ya?”
“Well… I was wondering… “
“Spit it out, it’s creepy down here.” Hunter’s first words were sharp, making me even more convinced that they had a thing and Hunter was trying to hide it.
“Hunter, give her a second!” Kat’s response was soft and gentle, and aimed at him. How could Kat be soft and gentle towards Hunter? This was bad.
“Well, I was wondering whether you two had a thing?”
“What?” Kat was truly shocked.
Hunter stayed silent though. Hmm, curious.
“What made you think that?” Kat asked, obviously still surprised by my question
“Well, when you were in the bathroom, the door wouldn’t open, then when Hunter opened it he was all stiff and you were standing in the middle of the room it looked faked, like you guys had been making out or something.
“Eww no!” Kat squealed
“I wish” Hunter mumbled under his breath. It was only loud enough for me to hear, and I don’t think I was supposed to hear it. I decided I would ask him about that later.
“Then what did happen?” I asked, genuinely curious.
“Well,” Kat started, “Hunter came over to the wall that I was standing against and trapped me, he then proceeded to try to turn me on, calling me ‘honey’ in the process. I told him not to call me ‘honey’ and then slid out of his arms and walked to the middle of the room. He followed, walked a bit further, and leaned against the door so that I couldn’t get out, then you tried to get in and he had to let you in. He didn’t like that much. Thanks by the way, you kinda saved me in there.” She explained the whole thing in so much detail and without thinking that it was obvious she was telling the truth. I think Hunter had the hots for Kat though! Wow!
We began walking again and found our way back to the group. They were talking amongst themselves and we pushed our way to the front. When we arrived at the room with the needles, the one Hunter was kept in, and three out of the eight people there had just woken back up. Luckily, with our backup we were prepared this time. We fought the three standing to the ground and then tied all eight up. Kat went over the the needles, trying to read the labels. When she came back saying there weren’t any labels, just color coding, we knew what we had to do. Kat and I had been trained in Kempo, Interrogation, and Self Defense, so we both had the same thought. Interrogation. We told everyone to go against the back walls and guard the doors. Then we went over to the man who had stepped on the tray of needles, who was now waking up. Good, this should be fun.
The man tried to move, but failed miserably.
He wiggled around and when he saw that he was tied up he looked around. When his eyes landed on us, they started to burn with anger.
“What did you do to me!?” he asked, his voice full of hatred.
Kat took a step towards him and said calmly “nothing… yet”
The man took a deep, shaky breath, getting the last of the drugs out of his system, he looked from Hunter to Kat to me. His eyes gave me an unnerving feeling that he could see into my soul. He finally move on and looked back to Kat.
“What do you want?”
“Two things at the moment. One; I want to know where the antidote for the memory loss drug is. Two; I want you to die in pain and grief.
“All I can tell you,” The man started “is that the memory loss drug will eventually kill him. It is the only drug we had that lasts forever, but that’s because it kills.”
“Tell me NOW” Kat’s voice filled the room, making even the guards jump a little.
“No” was his simple answer.
suddenly Kat turned to me. She spoke slowly and loud to make sure the man heard and said “Hey Jade, will you get me the needle with the blue liquid in it?”
“How did you know it was that one?” The man gulped nervously from behind Kat.
“I knew because I saw you stab Hunter with it”
“What? When I saw you, you were turned the other way fighting with James!”
“Here it is” I chimed, giving Kat the needle.
Kat inspected it, then inspected the mans face. Making her decision, she walked towards the man with the needle in her hand.
She stabbed the needle into his neck, and held his head so his eyes were level with hers as she injected the blue liquid
“Now you gonna tell me, or are you gonna die that slow and painful death?”
“You wouldn’t do that, that’s illegal, that has to be a fake.” The man said with panic in his eyes.
“Luckily for me, I’m not a cop, or any kind of law enforcement for that matter, so I would actually do that, and I did. Now where is that antidote?”
“Fine!” He spluttered. “It’s the pink liquid in the striped needle!”
“Hey Jade?”
“On it” I said, feeling ever so professional walking over to the tray of needles and grabbing the one the man had described.
I brought it to Kat, who first injected it into Hunter after telling him gently that it would hurt (hmm, she warned him, not only that, but she did it gently) before walking over to the man and giving the remaining drops to him harshly.
Hunter breathed a sigh of relief, and the man fell into a fit of convulsions.
Kat, Hunter and I left telling the rest of the guards to stay there and that we would be back for them ASAP. We ran down the halls and up the steps of Kat’s old basement (this time Kat had made sure to leave the door open) and went straight to the police, telling them the whole story, leaving out the part about the ghosts, and they took it as an ‘underground gang’. Then had us lead them to the basement and arrested all of the tied up people.
