From the day you are born, you have a watch imprinted into your skin, which slowly counts down. No, this is not a countdown to the die you will die like many movies interpret it. No, this watch counts down until the day you will meet your soul mate, the one you are meant to spend forever with. Some are lucky and meet their soul mates when they are young, others have to wait until they are old and grey, and some aren't destined to have a soul mate. But others have entirely different tales. This is one of them...

It was a cold November night, the streets were empty enough, a car drove past every now and again, but other than that I was completely alone. A cold winter breeze flew through the air, and I pulled my coat tighter around myself. Usually I wouldn't be out this late, for it is dangerous for a women to be out late at night in the dark, but tonight was different; tonight was the night my destiny would change forever.

Not long now. The streets became deadly empty and quiet, my ruby heels clacking against the sidewalk were the only sound to be heard. It would be simple enough to figure out who my soul mate was, as we would be the only ones in the same area with our watches at zero; it was fate. A slight drizzle fell from the sky and I pulled my hood up over my head, concealing my face in a slight shadow, but I'm sure it wouldn't matter, my soul mates clock would be ticking down also, they would know it's me they're looking for.

I've had a good life, a very good life in fact. I was a young 23 year old woman, a dream job in a number one publishing company, a nice house; not to sound vain, but I was beautiful, the definition of perfect with my doe blue eyes, sun kissed blonde hair and curvy figure, I would very often catch men admiring me, but they stayed back, because they were waiting for their soul mate. Soul mates. We are taught about them from a very young age in school, the fact that our imprinted watches are counting down to the day we shall meet our soul mate, whom we shall spend the rest of our lives with.

There was just one thing missing in my life.

Stopping under the orange glow of a streetlamp, I looked up to see a tall man walking my way. So, this man was the one that is destined to be my soul mate. He was handsome enough sure, muscular build, nice looking face, brown curly hair, and blue eyes that glowed with excitement upon seeing me, and his pace began to quicken .Within my chest I felt my heart began to beat faster in excitement, I had been planning this day for years, waiting for it, imagining it of how it would be. We were the only people in sight, it was perfect.

'Calm down' I thought to myself, shaking my head. I would not mess this up.

The clock hit zero and my soul mate stood before me under the glow of the next street lamp, the biggest grin on his face.

"Hi, I'm Michael, I-I guess we're soul mates." He nervously ran his fingers through his hair, that big dopey grin still on his face.

"I guess so." I replied, reaching into my purse.

"I've been looking forward to this day for years." He sighed.

"Me too," I smiled, removing my hood, as I aimed the gun.

No soul mate of mine was going to ruin my perfect life.

The rain continued to drizzle, the wind continued to blow and the streets stayed silent and empty. Carefully placing the gun back into my purse, I walked over to my soul mates now lifeless body, and watched the blood slowly weep out of the wound in his chest and onto the concrete street. Crouching down I placed a red lipstick kiss on his cold pale cheek.

"Nice meeting you." I whispered, before standing back up, shaking some blood off of my ruby heels.

As I walked away the sound of my heels clacking against the sidewalk was the only sound to be heard.
