Mae's POV
It's currently lunch and I'm trying to find Pony among the sea of lunch tables and separated cliques.
I find him and go to him. Bella sometimes eats lunch with us too, but most of the time she's with the jocks and cheerleaders. Where someone of her social status is expected.
My volleyball team's table is right next to Bella's but they understand I like to be next to Pone and my brother.
Ever since the night of us almost getting jumped, it's been quite hectic. Pony and I keep worrying about how things are going to be when summer rolls around the corner. It would mean never being able to see each other except for one week where my dad has a business trip to London.
Pony and I are official and I get extremely jealous, especially with the type of girls that are in the East Side of town. I frown just thinking about it.
"What's wrong?" He asks, while eating the crappy lunch food provided for us.
"Nun' Just trying to think about how it would work during the summer. I really don't think I'll be able to wait that long and only be able to see you for a week." I sigh.
"Babe, I know, we talked about it but it's the end of November. Relax. We got like, what, six months on us?" He chuckles. I laugh it off too.
Going to the same school as Ms. Strawberry Proton is so gosh darn annoying. Everyone describes her to be such a kind soul but man, are they so far gone from the truth.
I get home and my dad goes grocery shopping. My mom and I have a talk.
"Listen... I think we should tell your dad. It's really killing me. Keeping all this a secret Mae."
"Ma, I'm going to be in so much trouble."
"So am I, but if we wait it'll just make everything worse. And your dad has been in a good mood. What else could we ask for!"
"What if he stops me from seeing Ponyboy? Why if he takes me out of school! I'm just starting to grow on my volleyball team and Ponyboy and I are going great..."
"Im sorry sweetie. You know I've been lenient on you. But, if I have to I'll tell him by myself. Secrets don't make a family." She says with her hand on my face.
I nod understandingly. There's nothing more I could do.
At the dinner table
"Honey. Mae and I have something to tell you.." My mom says, obviously hesitant.
"Yes?" My dad says, he tenses up realizing there's something wrong.
"OKAY WELL I MET MY BIRTH MOM WHICH DIDNT GO WELL BUT ITS WHATEVER. I ENDED UP GETTING CLOSE TO MY HALF BROTHER AND I NOW HAVE A BOYFRIEND NAMED PONYBOY. SURPRISE?" I blurt out.
My mom gasps because she was unprepared to hear all of that.
My dad looks at me for a moment. He drops his utensils and whilst shaking his head, he went to the room.
My mom looked at me too, "You know I didn't plan it to go that way. But, I also planned your dad getting extremely loud so I guess this is better. Clean the table and wash the dishes I'll go check on your dad.

fast forward to the future
Mae's POV
Yes, my dad made me break up with Ponyboy after we told him. He also threatened to put me back into homeschooling but my mom eventually convinced him not to. I ended high school with a 4.2 GPA and was captain of the volleyball team. Although it was a great outcome, I began to fall into a state of depression for a while during high school. I missed Ponyboy. But, we stayed close friends and agreed that we wouldnt date but we wouldn't be open to other people and that we would wait until after high school. So, no, Ms. Strawberry whatever never got in the way. I graduated last year and am now going to college to study law. The best part? Ponyboy is going to that school too. My dad agreed to allow everything to flow as long as my grades are maintained. Bella and Dally ended up running away and now have an apartment somewhere in New York. We still keep in touch.
