Ch.5: High Schooler

Mae's POV

I heard the sound of keys opening the front door and it shutting.

That's the signal that it's time for dinner.

I'm not really sure what my dad works as. He's a business man.

We get a lot of money, but that's only because he doesn't spoil it on me. He makes sure I work hard for it.

We all sat at the dinner table.

Mom cooked spaghetti, which is my favorite.

Dad talked to Mom about his day and vice versa. I just monstered down the spaghetti.

"So dad.. What do you think about me going to a real high school?"

"I think you'd be crazy." He says not looking at me.

"But dad! I'm a teenager! I need friends, you're going to have to let me get down the basics in life instead of protecting me from life! I have one friend, and he lives in Arizona. Please dad." I say begging.

"Mae. I know that. But I just want my princess safe.."

"I will be safe dad! It's high school! The worse thing that could happen would be me skipping classes but you know I wouldn't." I say.

He stays quiet. And I decide not to push it.

We're all almost done with dinner, and he finally talks.

"What high school do you want to go to?" He asks.

"Well.. Will Roger? I heard its real nice. And they say the volleyball coach there is great!" I say excitedly.

"Well I guess I'll go to their school office tomorrow.." He says.

"OH MY GOD DAD THANK YOU." I scream and get up to hug him.

"Yeah yeah. But one thing goes wrong and your out, y'hear me? One thing! And clean the table and wash the dishes after." My dad says sternly.

I nod, and collect all the dishes. I put the left over spaghetti in the fridge and start cleaning the dishes.

I get done and go up stairs.

It's 9:45 and it's been a long day

so I go to get ready and go to sleep.

I wake up.

I check the time and it's 12:30PM. Woah.. I never wake up this late. Good thing it's a Saturday.

I go downstairs and my mom and dad are watching TV.

"Mornin'" I say and sit down next to mom.

"Morning sweetie. Good sleep?" My mom laughs.

"Definitely. Haha"

"Well we went in to the school office. And it's official. By this Monday you are a Freshman student at Will Rogers High School." My dad says.

I jump, "YESSS"

My mom slumped.

She doesn't work so I wouldn't be surprised if she's sad that she isn't going to teach me anymore.

"It's okay mom. You can always help me on my homework!" I say. All three of us laugh.

I'm excited for volleyball, and to make actual friends.

I'm going to be in high school. AHHHHHH.
